Elon James White: A Comic's Take on Sharks, Poor People -- and Mitt Romney

Election '16

If there’s anything Election 2012 will be remembered for, it’s fact-checking. Well, and the lying, which really stoked up that whole fact-checking frenzy.

Everybody’s got a fact-check schtick, it seems, awarding growing noses and flaming keisters with the straightest of faces. Which is why it’s so refreshing when comedians get in on the act.

In a fact-checking enterprise like no other, Lizz Winstead and Elon James White teamed up to conceive the “Actually...” videos, to fact-check Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney with a hit to the funny bone. (Not that keisters and noses are getting off easy -- just look at White’s prescription for sharks and/or poor people in the video at the end of this post.)

So far, the “Actually...” series, a production of the Jewish Council for Education and Research and American 21st Century Bridge, has presented videos by Winstead, Sara Silverman, Rosie Perez, W. Kamau Bell and Jay Smooth. (And speaking of that other Jay, one “Actually...” video recently outstripped Jay Z’s pro-Obama video in the rankings of such things calculated by the Wall Street Journal.) JCER describes itself as “a federal Super PAC committed to vigorous engagement in civic life.”

White's "Actually..." installment, titled "When Poor People Attack," is the final episode in the series.
