GOP Fathful Seek Long Period of Irrelevance
As a progressive, I love the conservative movement's fumbling attempts to "fix" the GOP -- now essentially a Southern party of older, married whites, a dwindling demographic ...
In a further sign that the [RNC] wants to signal its displeasure with Bush policies, members are expected to adopt an unprecedented resolution attacking "the bloated bank bailout bill" that Bush championed ...
Good politics, there -- the bailout's very unpopular ... but:
... and demanding that the committee "take all steps necessary to oppose bailouts of industries, individuals or governments."
The resolution also calls for strong opposition to the stimulus plan before Congress, which it labels "President-elect Obama's public-works program."
Oh, maybe they should call it "socialism"! The problem is they conflate opposition to bailing out Wall Street with help for "individuals", and the very basic Keynesian stimulus which most economists agree is needed.
They're doing the same thing again and again and hoping for a different result: peddling their 'fuck you, you're on your own' political philosophy -- one which many conservatives clearly have convinced themselves is popular.
