Hillary Continues Anti-Hope Campaign

Hillary continues to ridicule Barack Obama and his supporters on the notion that all he is bringing to the table is hope, as if that were insubstantial. The Tribune notes, however, that Obama is bringing more substance to his speeches than Hillary or John McCain. Denigrating hope, though, is the wrong, and probably fatal, move for her campaign.

Oh, she needs a lot more than that, but it is the wrong move for the Hillary Clinton campaign, once again, to mock the hope the Barack Obama campaign is bringing to millions and millions of people. Look here at what Hillary Clinton had to say at a campaign stop Sunday. From the "Caucus" at the New York Times:

On Sunday, before a rally of several thousand, she added a heavy dose of sarcasm.
"Now I could stand up here and say, let's get everybody together, let's get unified the sky will open, the light will come down, celestial choirs will be singing," she said, to a smattering of giggles. "And everyone will know we should do the right thing, and the world will be perfect."
She added: "But I have no illusions about how hard this is going to be. You are not going to wave a magic wand and make the special interests disappear."
. . .
In Huber Heights, Ohio, on Saturday, Mrs. Clinton said, referring to Mr. Obama, "I'm not asking you to take a leap of faith on me. I'm asking you to look at the record."
Yeah, mocking the feeling of hope in the hearts of millions of people is not going to nudge Hillary Clinton forward. She's got to steal those votes back, and she's not going to do so by mocking Obama supporters. And get it straight, she's not mocking Obama here as much as she is mocking those who have come to believe in him. Would that be Rule Number 1 in campaigning, that you don't mock the voters?
