On last night's Hardball, analyst Howard Fineman says something to the effect that the Foley scandal may be "A missile aimed at the heart of the Republican Party."
The questionable use of "missile" as a metaphor notwithstanding, Fineman speaks to the very same issue dealt with in AlterNet's top story: Will the cover up of Foley's behavior mark a turning point in the Christian Right/Republican love affair?
Fineman quotes Dr. James Dobson of Focus on the Family and discusses the slippery slope of the Republican spin cycle on Foley:
"If the Republicans are reduced to arguing 'the Democrats are just as bad," then the republicans have lost, what they thought of as the moral high ground that they've built their party on for the last 15 or 20 years."
