Just why does Bill Frist hate America?
When Afghan president Hamid Karzai, the Mayor of Kabul, dropped by the White House last month, George Bush appeared to swat around his ubiquitous straw-critics. "I know there's some in your country who wonder or not -- whether or not America has got the will to do the hard work necessary to help you succeed," Bush said.
There must be some that say it -- it's a big country -- but, Bush promised Karzai, "We have got that will, and we're proud of you as a partner," to which the Afghan leader responded with a perfunctory "Wonderful. Great."
Given what great and wonderful support the White House was so recently promising, I wasn't quite sure what to make of it Monday when Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist came out with this gloomy bit of analysis which, if I didn't know better, I'd consider a clear-cut example of the shrillest brand of America-hating:
