Strip Holy Joe!

Senior Democratic leaders, like their counterparts in the rank and file, are getting increasingly pissed off at Joe Lieberman's craven independent bid for Senate in Connecticut. Lieberman lost the primary but kept on fighting dirty against the Democratic Party's nominee, Ned Lamont.

Now, many of Lieberman's senate colleagues are entertaining a threat they should have issued the day Joe lost the primary: stripping him of his committee assignments.

The Hill newspaper is reporting that Joe Lieberman, too good to do his own groveling, has retained former Enron lobbyist Michael Lewan to beg for his seniority.

Dave Sirota doesn't mince words:

There really are no words to describe the immorality and shamelessness of all this. Here we have an Enron lobbyist and former moneyman for a Republican convicted on corruption charges now bragging to the press that he's demanding elected Democrats ignore the results of our party's small-d democratic election.
Jane Hamsher writes:
This isn’t "moderates" vs. "extremists" as Lanny Davis and Mike McCurry would have it — this is entrenched kleptocrats vs. those who would hold them accountable. And do the entitlement set know how to show up for Joe!"
