UPDATED: From the rumor mill

Update: Rumor is confirmed...

Word is, discredited and indicted Republican Tom DeLay will be forced to stay on the ballot in Texas this November.

That translates into an automatic win for Democrat Nick Lampson, a pick up of one seat for the Democrats in the House of Representatives and the allocation of resources to other races. Dems only need 14 victories in November to retake the House and have a sporting chance to gain a tie in the senate.

When DeLay resigned, he attempted to shift his residence to Virginia in order to be declared "ineligible" for reelection, thereby clearing the way for a different Republican -- one with fewer indictments presumably -- to be put on the ballot.

More as it develops.
