Pollitt: Christian right prefers cancer to pre-marital sex

Katha Pollitt, columnist for The Nation, reads the title essay from her new book, Virginity or Death! And Other Social and Political Issues of Our Time.

Pollitt muses on the hypocrisy of Christian right wingers opposing a vaccine that could prevent the sexually transmitted disease HPV because, while it will prevent cervical cancer in women, it could also result in more teenage ‘tramps.’

“Raise your hand if you think that what is keeping girls virgins now is the threat of getting cervical cancer in midlife, from a disease they’ve probably never heard of.”
