New marine massacre tape (video)
BBC has gotten its hands on what they're calling a "New 'Iraq massacre' video." The video, too gruesome to air in full, shows that a number of Iraqis officially killed by a crumbling building after a firefight with the U.S. military, actually appear to have been killed by gunshots.
This video comes right on the heels of the Haditha revelations and the killing of a pregnant Iraqi woman and her cousin.
These incidents make the military's new "ethics training" look a bit anemic.
Especially when you read this disturbing Lord of the Flies meets Heart of Darkness story on a Marine outpost at the Haditha Dam. In it, a civilian engineer to afraid to give his name comments chillingly that: "Marines are good at killing," he said. "Nothing else. They like it."
That's just one man's opinion from one place at one time. But the incidents all taken together produce an alarming trend.
But it's exceptionally complicated. War makes some people go nuts and others not so. But the coverups and the reports that higher-ups seem to be promoting an atmosphere of lawlessness are surely exacerbating what is already an environment ripe for brutality. (Suburban Guerilla)
