Mudcats and Democrats

Kevin Drum points to an interesting article in the American Prospect Online in which Tom Schaller of describes his run-in with Mudcat Saunders on a panel at the YearlyKos convention in Las Vegas.
Saunders is a high-priced political consultant who insists that Democrats can win back the South by appealing to white male non-college educated rural voters. Nevermind that this demographic is becoming an ever-smaller segment of the electorate with each passing cycle. Nevermind that the Democratic victories in Virginia that were hailed as proof of Saunders' rural strategies didn't actually succeed by gaining rural votes.
