Updated (with video): Enron's Ken Lay and Jeff Skilling found guilty as charged

Enron's chief officers Ken Lay and Jeffrey Skilling lied, cheated, and otherwise deliberately set out to fool both Enron employees and the public, a jury ruled today.

Skilling's response was brief and, not surprisingly, without remorse: "Obviously, I'm disappointed, but that's the way the system works," he said. Yes, Jeff, I'm sure you're as suprised as the rest of us that, occasionally, the criminal justice system catches one of the right people.

The surreal video of Skilling's response, including his initial rambling thanking of his lawyers and children (did someone tell him this wasn't the Oscars?) is available here[scroll down].

The ruling came after fourteen weeks of trial and six days of jury deliberations. Lay faces 45 years in jail. Skilling, if convicted of all counts, would have faced more than 200 years in prison. The true worth of the verdict will come out at the sentencing, which will happen on September 11th. With the case against Karl Rove getting stronger each day, it's starting to look like our President might want to get himself a new set of friends. I've heard Russ Feingold has an opening for a lunch date.
