Know-it-all women (video)

There's a leaker! But the leaker's in the Hardball offices this time, beyond the reach of Patrick Fitzgerald.

Just before airtime (8 seconds guys!) Chris Matthews offers to send some Democratic focus group info Tom DeLay's way. Matthews explains that all the Dems are there, Kennedy, Kerry, Clinton... "great stuff."

This ensues from Harry Shearer:

MATTHEWS: ...and Hillary was a know-it-all.
DELAY: Nothing worse than a woman know-it-all
[...]
MATTHEWS: Thanks. I owe you one. I owe you two -- today and last night.
DELAY: No you don't.
MATTHEWS: No, I do.
DELAY: I appreciate it.
Yes, so darned unappealing they are.

After the little boys club ended and the cameras rolled, DeLay picked gay congressman Barney Frank as his most admired Liberal. A stunned Matthews asks about Frank's, er, lifestyle and DeLay responds: "the lord commands me to love him."

Admirable enough I guess.

Frank's response? "I hereby relieve Mr. DeLay of this commandment."

Farhad Manjoo, noting that Chris Matthews' mis-named Hardball program was the only invitation DeLay accepted, lists the fusillade of softballs to which DeLay could only say, "yup and" so many times before breaking down and just repeating "what he said, what he said, what...":
Matthews switched to the Clinton impeachment, which DeLay forced in the House. "You accomplished what the Senate didn't accomplish. The Senate Republicans couldn't get their act together one way or the other. You had a House that was committed to the impeachment of Bill Clinton for acts of obstruction of justice and perjury, and you had it figured out. And you got a majority to do it. After all the bad election results in 1998, you still got it done. Are you glad?" More: "Do you think [Clinton's] wife should bear some blame for making accusations like it was all a vast right-wing conspiracy when her husband was caught lying?" And then: "Do you think the fact that you were so successful with impeaching Bill Clinton ... that the Democrats, like people like Conyers, some of the red hots, won't be coming back and trying to do it in that same spirit, and saying, 'You did it to us, we'll do it to Bush?'"
