Wal-Mart will stock emergency contraception

In a fairly surprising move on Friday, Wal-Mart announced on its website that all of its stores would carry emergency contraception -- aka, "Plan B." This comes on the heels of the Massachusetts pharmacy board ruling a few weeks ago that all Wal-Marts in that state must carry it; previously, only stores in Illinois carried Plan B, where it was required by state law.

Though not requiring its pharmacists to actually dispense the medication, this is regardless a huge step forward for women in rural areas where the local Wal-Mart is the only game in town. Thanks to ruthless pricing tactics, ridiculous government subsidies and corporate strong-arming, many folks unfortunately have no other choice but to shop at Wal-Mart.
