Oh, the things they say

Here are some of the top quotes I've seen in my recent news reading:

"The committee, to put it bluntly, is basically under the control of the White House through its chairman." -- Vicechair of the Senate Intelligence Committee Jay Rockerfeller explaining how oversight of the Bush adminstration was working with regard to unwarranted wiretapping. Considering the gravity of what Rockerfeller was talking about, it's a straight up concession that some very sick politics are going on.

"It is difficult, indeed dangerous, to underestimate the huge changes this revolution will bring or the power of developing technologies to build and destroy -- not just companies but whole countries." -- Rupert Murdoch on the promise of the internet.

"Guinness is the drink that kept the Irish from taking over the world. It would be unthinkable not to have a Guinness during a St. Patrick's Day parade. In fact, it would be spiritually wrong." -- Texas gubernatorial candidate Kinky Friedman in response to the puritanical rush to demonize him for drinking a beer in a St. Patty's day parade. Friedman later explained, "I admit to holding a Guinness. I admit to drinking it. But I did not swallow."
