HIV prevention pill testing on humans

Since life saving treatment of HPV (a sexual transmitted disease) has come under fire from Conservative Christianists (I say "Christianists" to distinguish from those whose belief system is characterized first and foremost by Love and not by fear and retribution... I welcome new ideas; Fallwellians? Pat-sies?), Jill is wary of reactions to the promising new HIV prevention pill:

"Not to be too glass-is-half-empty, but how long until the religious right comes out against this drug because it wouldn’t punish fucking by death?"
According to the U.S. CDC: "Two drugs already used to treat HIV infection have shown such promise at preventing it in monkeys that officials last week said they would expand early human tests around the world."

Anyone getting in the way of this vaccine [correction, it's not a vaccine, but a treatment... see comments] should it prove successful, could have a hell of a lot of blood on their hands as: "HIV spreads to 10 people every minute, five million every year." If Christianist groups want to convince me that they're equal parts Love and Judgement they'll ensure that every person who contracts HIV or any STD is cared for before they go moralizing about abstinence. Call me when that happens. (Feministe)
