Right wing smearing Fitzgerald?

As Plamegate heats up again and Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald climbs back onto the stage, the right wing Stepfordocracy is attempting to revive the Fitzgerald smear.

This time they're misleading readers by calling for Fitz to release evidence relating to a number of crimes like the Espionage Act, The IIPA etc., that Libby supposedly is being charged for. Except that's not what he's being charged for.

It won't work.

Steve Benen writes:

The typical smear may have been possible once, but that was before Attorney General Alberto Gonzales sang Fitzgerald's praises; before RNC Chairman Ken Mehlman said on MTP that he has "complete confidence" in Fitzgerald; and before Bush personally praised Fitzgerald for the "dignified way" in which he's run the Plame investigation.
That said, do you suppose Fitzgerald is starting to make conservatives nervous again? Stay tuned.
