Lieberman and Bush

In both the Times and the Post Joe Lieberman (D-CT) called rumors that he might replace Rumsfeld as Secretary of Defense, a "fantasy."

My personal question to the Senator would be: whose fantasy?

Considering the backlash, fleshed out in last week's Peek, it's not exactly surprising that Lieberman's denied any connection to this possibility but Murray Waas points out that Lieberman had previously been on the short list to replace Tom Ridge as head of Homeland Security.

Waas writes that, "The more salient point, however, is that the Bush White House let Lieberman know in a very serious sort of way that they were considering him for a cabinet position..."

In light of this, Waas has a suggestion for a question that should be put to Lieberman's colleagues in the Senate: "Would talk of appointment as a cabinet secretary have colored his outlook on the Bush administration?" (Whatever Already!)
