Joe Stiglitz, globalization and its discontents ...

News & Politics

I don't have a lot of heroes, but Joe Stiglitz is one of 'em. The Nobel-prize winning economist - formerly Chief Economist for the World Bank - is one of the great straight-shooters in debates about the global political economy. For that, he takes regular heat.

I want to recommend you read his piece on Tompaine today about next week's WTO Ministerial Conference in Hong Kong, which I'll be covering for you. It gives you an idea why the "free-trade" meme is the mother of all red herrings.
