Anatomy of a 'rendition'

So how does it feel like to be the target of the CIA's "rendition" program?

Well, if you're Khaled Masri, an unemployed German citizen, you might just find yourself pulled off a bus in Macedonia and flown to a secret prison in Afghanistan. After four months of being beaten and terrorized -- but not tortured, since that would be impossible under our current guidelines -- you might be just returned to your life, but only because those CIA spooks think no one will believe you.

No apologies, no explanations. Not even a Britney Spears-like "Oops, I did it again" -- not even now that the CIA has reportedly done exactly this at least 36 times. That your own German government won't say a word on your behalf will make it all a little more unbearable. [
