They grow up so fast …

It breaks your heart to see how fast they grow up. One day, they’re little exiles running around Congress in their nappies, and the next –- sniff -- they’re running a country with only a bit of help from those U.S. army training wheels.

And my, how they learn! Like little sponges they are.

And what they've learned makes it clear that the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. Just eleven days after Papa Bush said “we do not torture” down in Panama, Iraq’s Interior Minister, Bayan Jabor, told reporters that despite the discovery of 173 starving and brutalized men and teenage boys in a government detention facilty, "I don't accept for any officer to even slap a prisoner."

The precocious tyke added the old family hand-me-down. He said that the problem wasn't the torture -- one report I heard said the prisoners looked like Holocaust survivors -- it was that the media simply weren't telling the people the good news: "The talk about this has been inaccurate," he said.

And then the cute little devil even threw in the ‘few bad apples’ line, just like Pop-pop: "There were only five, or at most seven, who showed signs of having been beaten," he said. Isolated incidents all, no pattern here and no doubt the guilty parties will be punished.

Talk amongst yourselves, I’m getting all choked up here.
