Product placement, Us Weekly style

It is rumored to be the next generation in product placement, Us Weekly style. Celebrities, they're just like us -- except they get paid to guzzle their coffee. According to New York Daily News, Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner have "snagged an exclusive 'seven-figure' contract with Starbucks Coffee Co. to drink, be photographed with and generally promote the popular java around the country."

Bennifer II - who married in June and are expecting a baby girl any day - are rarely seen in public without their trademark oversize cups emblazoned with the ubiquitous Starbucks logo. And with his career in the dregs and hers on hold, a hefty endorsement deal could be just their cup. [NYDN via Gawker]
Then again, I'm not sure if the 'very pregnant chick mainlines caffeine' look works all that well from a PR point of view. Moreover, Affleck's publicist not only issued the standard denial but also threw in a most un-Hollywood-like jab at the mocha peddlers: "Of course, I'm more than upset at Starbuck's policies toward their workers joining unions, so I might advise him to reconsider his routine."

Unabashed progressive rhetoric in a gossip column? What's next -- the front page of the New York Times? Well, we can dream.
