Soldier propagandist

News & Politics

After Bush's "talk" with soldiers in the field last week, revealed by NPR and AP as queer as a three dollar bill, the participating soldiers themselves are falling one by one.

But not to enemy fire. A second soldier has been exposed as a serial pro-Bush mouthpiece. Earlier, Tim Karr noted that an actual military spokesperson was in attendance.

Well it turns out that another soldier from the plain ol' sitdown has a habit of cropping up as a pro-Bush military voice. Tim Karr writes:

"I've dug further into the history of First Lieutenant Gregg Murphy of the 278th Regimental Combat Team and found that there's more to Murphy than meets the lens. His pro-Bush rhetoric is sprinkled throughout the media in articles dating back to 2003."
After quoting a number of these masterful performances by Murphy, Karr notes that Operation Truth and others provide ample evidence that the military is deeply divided on Iraq. O.T.'s founder Paul Rieckhoff had this to say about the photo op:
"This thing was not just staged, it was superstaged. In a disgusting display, the President again used our troops as political props in an event so scripted that it basically turned into a conversation with himself. I wish the White House had put this much effort into post-war planning when my platoon hit Baghdad."
