Say What? The Harriet Miers edition

Who knew cronyism required this kind of gratuitous ass-kissing? Here is the letter Ms. Miers wrote her good friend on his 51st birthday in July 1997: "You are the best governor ever - deserving of great respect." ... She also found him "cool," said he and his wife, Laura, were "the greatest!" and told him: "Keep up the great work. Texas is blessed."

More telling however is Bush's response: (H)e wrote thanks and a "happy 52nd to you." He added, "I appreciate your friendship and candor - never hold back your sage advice."

Well, it does require a certain level of honesty to let someone know he is "the greatest" and as for her wise counsel -- "keep up the great work" -- priceless!

And we wonder why our President has a problem with reality.

Note that Dubya is also cool: "Hopefully Jenna and Barbara recognize that their parents are 'cool' - as do the rest of us." No wonder it's going out of fashion.
