Hackett to seek senate seat

News & Politics

Paul Hackett announced yesterday that he will challenge Mike DeWine (R-OH) for US Senate in 2006. Earlier this year, Hackett, a progressive Democrat and Iraq war veteran, made an unexpectedly strong showing in a special election in Ohio's heavily Republican 2nd District.

The news of Hackett's candidacy is being recieved with enthusiasm in the liberal blogosphere.

Kitty at DailyKos writes, "Looks like we got our wish. The Dems in Washington urged him to run."

Bob Brigham at Swing State Project says, "Senator Mike DeWine is doomed."

Kos agrees that the latest battleground polls already look good: Hackett:44/DeWine:36. (Kitty.dailykos / Swing State Project / Daily Kos)
