Bush's State Dept, through the mouth of Condi's deputy, Robert Zoellick, warned a group of business leaders that "your opportunities will be lost" if they continue to support parties perceived as unfriendly to the US, according to Charles Norman Todd.
Also, on behalf of "preserving democracy," Zoellick express official US opposition to a Left/Right coalition working to unseat the current president.
But does the preservation of democracy end there? Course not:
"Zoellick even said that if Sandinista leader Daniel Ortega is elected in the presidential election next year that the U.S. would reduce its economic aid. Hence: the U.S. is really concerned with democracy as long as it goes our way."(Freiheit und Wissen)
