US won't let Canada help Katrina victims

"'Things that make you want to scream' for $500, Alex..." writes Kos, referring to the Vancouver Urban Search and Rescue team whose assistance was requested... and then denied entry into the US.

"Planes are ready to load with food and medical supplies and a system called 'DART' which can provide fresh water and medical supplies is standing by."
"Not so fast, elite Canadian rescuers!" comments Lindsay Beyerstein: "You can't just fly down here and start saving lives, not while the Department of Homeland Security's in charge."

It turns out those do-gooder Canucks and their fresh water and medical supplies haven't got the go-ahead to fly into the US... (DailyKos & Majikthise)
