Remember Pat Tillman?
Remember Pat Tillman? The national war hero and former football player killed by what the Pentagon so inaptly describes as 'friendly fire.' The San Francisco Chronicle has an excellent must-read article on the circumstances of his death, which remain murky thanks to the strenuous efforts of the military. Each so-called investigation -- there have been three thus far -- has merely raised more questions as the Pentagon does its best to cover up egregious incompetence up and down the chain of command.
But even this tragedy has its moment of humor, provided in this case by Ann Coulter, who described Tillman at the time of his death as "an American original -- virtuous, pure and masculine like only an American male can be." As in this "American original":
Interviews also show a side of Pat Tillman not widely known  a fiercely independent thinker who enlisted, fought and died in service to his country yet was critical of President Bush and opposed the war in Iraq, where he served a tour of duty. He was an avid reader whose interests ranged from history books on World War II and Winston Churchill to works of leftist Noam Chomsky, a favorite author. [LINK]
