Friedman hits a new low

Sure eating breakfast may help a girl stay slim, but reading Tom Friedman first thing in the morning is more likely to turn me into a bulemic. Friedman, sorry, the Iraqis' "American friend," begins today's column with this quote from imperial apologist Michael Mandelbaum:

The U.S. military presence in Iraq today is like the dikes and levees that were protecting New Orleans from the flood. The equivalent of the flood for Iraq is a civil war between Sunnis, Shiites and Kurds. The U.S. military right now is holding that back."
And ends with:
And if the dikes of stability that U.S. soldiers are holding together in Iraq give way, well, you all will envy the people of New Orleans. Most of them had somewhere to go when their floods hit. You and your neighbors will not.
Not that Tom's written anything worth reading for the past couple of years, but this is surely a new low for him. And the odd premise of the column -- warning naughty Iraqis that if they don't get their act together, the United States may just up and leave -- surely makes him a serious contender for the Best Dubya Impersonator award.
