At least they're doing something
At least a few celebrities are stepping up to the proverbial plate and donating respectable quantities of money to the Katrina disaster relief efforts.
DiversityInc reports that P. Diddy and Jay-Z have made a joint donation of $1 million to the Red Cross, saying that "they hoped to inspire others, especially blacks, to give."
Jay-Z also said, "This is our community ... When I turn on CNN, I see a lot of black people on the streets. I know it's other people too, but those projects have been hit hard."
Our least-favorite Canadian crooner, Celine Dion (with the partners of her Las Vegas show "A New Day"), also pledged $1 million to the Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund -- as did Nicolas Cage, who owns a home in New Orleans.
... And in the bustling hub of worldwide debauchery, NYC club and bar owners are planning a citywide "Save New Orleans Cocktail Hour" on September 12, to raise money for Katrina victims and their families.
Participating New York watering holes will serve up $10 versions of classic Nola libations -- like Brandy Milk Punch, Obituary Cocktail, and the aptly-named Hurricane -- with all proceeds going to a new tax-deductible relief fund established by the Museum of the American Cocktail.
