Viva the Scientists!

First, you couldn't go two feet without hearing about "unintelligible design" the unproven, untested idea that the world was created by a bespectled master schemer.

Then, the editor-in-chief of the Journal of the American Medical Association gets attacked by anti-abortion fanatics for daring to actually publish an article that attempts to discover when a fetus might feel pain.

It's all well and good to look at the biases of scientists. But this seems different, as if the basic of idea of proof and science is up for political debate. It reminds me of a father I know who, when his three-year-old son asks why its raining, says, "because God wants it to."

And we wonder why the National Science Foundation says American science is getting weaker.

Luckily, the smart folks at Stay Free! Magazine know when to get angry and when to get silly, and their Scientist Stamps, a parody of the post office's real Scientist stamps, are pretty funny.

Perhaps it's time to replace all our Che Guevara accessories with some featuring, say, someone named Steve.
