UK men claiming they're smarter than women

There's evidently point-spread differences on IQ tests that completely explain the hypothesis of a group of University of Manchester professors who say that men are smarter than women. No, couldn't have anything to do with the questions on the tests, the environment of the test-taking, etc... Echidne comments: "Eighty-Five Years Later... And all I got was this crummy article about how men, once again, are smarter than women. Eighty-five years ago it was the skull size, today it is the answers to a carefully formed bunch of questions. In another eighty-five years it will be something else to make sure that women are seen as a subspecies of Homo Sapiens, at best. ... But at least women in the United States have been able to vote for eighty-five years! Three cheers and a hurrah. I think. Though the number of women in the U.S. House and Senate amounts to a whopping fifteen percent of the total, less than the much-praised quota for women in the planned Iraq constitution."

What frustrates me most about 'studies' like this is the general public acceptance of them, simply because it's 'men' and 'women.' Substitute race or class for gender here, and there would be an uproar -- 'Whites Smarter Than Blacks,' 'Rich People Smarter Than Poor People,' etc. Can you imagine? But since it's gender, it's 'hard-coded' into us, and therefore unquestionably true. (Echidne of the Snakes)
