That famous Bush compassion

Q: How does a man get to be an insensitive heel?

Well, we're quite familiar with Bush pere but here's a nice quote from Barbara Bush dug up by Nico over at Think Progress from a 2003 Good Morning America appearance (let's take a moment to note the irony of the program's name):

"Why should we hear about body bags, and deaths, and how many, what day it’s gonna happen, and how many this or what do you suppose? Oh, I mean, it’s not relevant. So why should I waste my beautiful mind on something like that?"
Spoken like a parent gleefully blind to possibility of ever having to have a child in the military.

Bob Geiger notes that Bush did interrupt his Spring vacation to fly to the DC signing of some Terri Schiavo legislation but that he's so bent on relaxing this time that he won't make the five minute trip to Camp Casey. (ThinkProgress & Yellow Dog Blog)
