Novak's other secret?

News & Politics

Is Robert Novak in Opus Dei, the secretive ultra-conservative Catholic organization "known for self-flagellation and wearing spiked metal garters underneath their clothes as forms of penance?"

Nobody knows of course. That's the secretive part. But Novak was baptized by an eminent member of that group (he was born Jewish) and, like Novak, the group really, really likes to cultivate relationships with those in power.

Still, Dei was founded on spiritual principles which, according to this Radar blogger, Novak doesn't seem to have much interest in: "some accuse him of discarding the underlying themes of fellowship, humility, and charity that were stressed by Opus Dei founder Saint Josemaria Escriva, who preached that people should do 'small things with great love.'"
