Press bankrupt on social security projections

The latest round of hysterical headlines proclaiming that the social security sky is falling even faster than we thought are not entirely accurate. Econo-blogger Brad DeLong points out that SS's financial status actually improved, despite dire assumptions in every possible case: "That's six thumbs on the scales, and still the long-run deficit shrinks. So why is the headline that the financial status of Social Security has gotten worse? Can you say 'an easily snowed press corps?' I knew you could." (Brad DeLong)
