Officially blaming "scheduling" conflicts, Bush canceled one of his "just plain folks" town hall meetings in Germany. The real problem was that: "an uncontrolled encounter with the German public would be too unpredictable." Indeed, preparations for his visit required "one of the biggest postwar security operations in Germany." So he sought out, and found, the "Cheerleader of the free world."
