GENERAL FORECAST: It's going to take a while to recover from the challenges set in motion during the sun's opposition to Pluto on the 6th. Redemption, reprieve, maybe even remorse. On Saturday at 8:12 a.m. PDT Mercury finishes its retro tour in Gemini and turns direct. The sun and Saturn meet early Sunday morning, further emphasizing what has emerged from the last Saturn-Pluto polarity, e.g., Russia and NATO! Monday's new moon/annular eclipse of the sun at 20 Gemini is, weather permitting, visible. Since eclipses run in 19-year cycles, think back to June, 1983 when Russia was part of Reagan's "Evil Empire." Like then, this eclipse is too close to the USA's natal Mars at 21 Gemini for my comfort. However, it is right on George W.'s conjunction of erratic, aerodynamic Uranus and his lunar north node (a.k.a. his destiny in this lifetime.) Save us!

ARIES (March 20-April 19)

Summer school, summer camp or summer tour? Unless you're weeding in the community garden, right about now frisky Rams may want to consider an alternative to vegging in the cozy confines of the neighborhood. While your Mars ruler is in homey Cancer, you're apt to feel uncommonly comfortable instead of inspired and adventurous. The proper motivation arrives around Independence Day, when you're offered an opportunity to become, if not independently wealthy, at least headed in that direction.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20)

It's that time of year when money matters matter more than they usually do. Although you might want to expand your culinary skills (your Venus ruler is in yummy-tummy Cancer), do you have to go to Hong Kong to master dim sum? There's a strong temptation to let your fantasy life run away with you, preferably to someplace romantic. While you're allocating funds, be aware that, as the summer progresses, you'll want to entertain (and be entertained) quite lavishly.

GEMINI (May 21-June 20)

Shaking off the constraints Saturn in Gemini has imposed could become your major goal. And while the Twins don't usually shirk responsibility, sometimes enough IS enough. Unless you took off while Mercury was retrograde, you're probably in need of a vacation. A few days spent restoring your equilibrium and indulging your senses will put your head in the right place for Mercury's return trip to the events your ruling planet set it motion before it flipped on May 15.

CANCER (June 21-July 22)

Macho Mars in your sign provides an aura of assertiveness and a more adventurous attitude than you've had since Mars was in Cancer two years ago. Do what you will with the infusion of physical energy -- e.g., train for a marathon or a swim meet. Just keep in mind that this is a good time to strut your stuff, to act as if you really were the cock of the walk. It might take a few days before the pattern emerges; nevertheless, the new moon eclipse on the 10th suggests that the Moon Child might be ready for a spiritual revival.

LEO (July 23-August 22)

Saturnian structure is available for Lion cubs that need it, Uranian independence for those who want a significant change. That's because your sun ruler is in contact with both planets this week. The new moon/solar eclipse on the 10th underscores the influence a group-mindset can exert during this lunar cycle. No brain-washing, just identifying with folks who think the way you do about something that affects everybody. Best of all, as of the 14th, lovable Venus will be in Leo for four fabulous weeks.

VIRGO (August 23-September 22)

Don't expect Mercury to pick up exactly where it left off. You need to be patient while your ruling planet shifts from neutral to first and eventually into second gear. Climbing back to where you were in mid-May might take a certain amount of effort or a more flexible way of dealing with a matter that was put on hold when Mercury went into reverse. A new twist on the same-old, same-old career matter should appear shortly after the Gemini new moon/solar eclipse on the 10th.

LIBRA (September 23-October 22)

Now that Mercury is about to move forward and a bunch of planets are transiting your house of foreign travel and spiritual quests, it's time to make a move, be it move on, move out or move up. Feel free to make reservations, pinpoint schedules and deal with a myriad of details next week. But don't lose sight of the fact that your Venus ruler is poised on the cusp of homey Cancer and glamorous Leo. Get out the family jewels, because you're about to become a social lion, dressed to the nines and adored by an armload of admirers.

SCORPIO (October 23-November 21)

Something unexpected, not necessarily an earthquake, might shake the foundation of your domestic scene. Nevertheless, it wouldn't hurt to have plenty of water and batteries in the house and also to back up your files. Electronic Uranus in your Aquarius home base is so unpredictable, almost anything can set it off. Otherwise, look to joint resources -- money and talent -- to keep you sufficiently occupied for the next month. Also look for a Lady Bountiful who'll take an interest in your career.

SAGITTARIUS (November 22-December 21)

Could it be that the Gemini new moon will actually introduce a new partnership experience into your life? Or because the moon eclipses the sun, will that prospect die on the vine? No matter. As long as Saturn is in your marriage house, who needs a relationship based on work and worry? Although you can't/won't/dare not shirk the responsibilities you've already incurred, think twice before you take on any more. As for fun, it'll arrive once pleasure-loving Venus enters lively Leo, another spirited fire sign, on the 14th.

CAPRICORN (December 22-January 20)

The merger this weekend of the Gemini sun and your Saturn ruler can dramatically increase your will power and, if you really want to take command of a situation, your will to power as well. The once-a-year conjunction is all you need to remind yourself that you are the person responsible for taking care of yourself (and your pets). This is a good time to deal with your DDS and HMO, the SPCA and other organizations that provide services. Now that Mercury is finally turning direct, bring on the paperwork!

AQUARIUS (January 21-February 18)

The new moon in your Gemini house of fun and games introduces a recreational activity that can engross you for at least another month. It could also trigger a creative response from you and, if you're a parent, a more meaningful role in your kid's favorite pastime. Will you be the hero who comes up with tickets to a playoff game? I'm not kidding about the hero business. In the not too distant future, what you do now could buff up the shine on your good name.

PISCES (February 19-March 19)

Another variation on a theme that runs through your family, not unlike a rumor everyone can relish. Just one more week of aggravated assaults on your patience and you'll be finished with this particularly testy period. If you can't ignore what's happening at home, then simply concentrate on having a good time -- eating, drinking and making merry while Venus and Jupiter, the planets of love and luck, are transiting your Cancer house of risk and romance. Soon enough, this too shall pass. Enjoy yourself now.
