Rockie Horoscope 41

If you know your ascendant, read it too.

GENERAL FORECAST: If it feels like nothing much is going on, you're right. Nothing much is going on. Venus' shift into Leo on the 13th might brighten up the scene, add to your creative impulse and love of luxury, but until then all we have going are purely mental pursuits. And while ideas and research can be tantalizing, while Mercury retrograde meets curious Mars in Cancer on the 7th, what you'll probably pursue is the ultimate crabcake recipe. Food, the history of food, family feeding rituals, food fights, the emotional uses and abuses of what you put in your mouth are all astrologicially appropriate subjects for investigation this weekend. The desire to buy something sturdy and expensive -- e.g., a Viking stove -- when Venus and Saturn align on Tuesday makes perfect sense, too, especially if yours is a long-term relationship that has a good chance of surviving a kitchen make-over. Engaging in other risky behavior is better left to next weekend when a lunar eclipse adds a little drama to romance and your customary recreational activities.

ARIES (March 20-April 19)

Home sweet home. It's still a good time to visit the folks you grew up with, but if you can't travel right now, get in touch and stay in touch. If you're involved in the restaurant biz, now is the time to rethink your menu, check your inventory and review your reviews. While your Mars ruler is in Cancer, squaring your Aries planets, expect to experience a certain amount of stress, to encounter a challenging situation (related to the family or real estate) that has more emotional impact than you anticipated. Athletes, especially swimmers, excel during this period.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20)

The signal that you're on the right track comes on Tuesday when your affectionate Venus ruler is favored by constructive Saturn in your sign. Proceed with your usual taurine caution (since when were you into speed?) and you'll get your fill of what you desire, particularly from siblings and neighbors. I know this sounds like a coded message, but since Venus will soon (the 13th) leave comfy, cozy Cancer, now is the time to address and satisfy your current needs. Going off on a whim, taking creative chances should be postponed for another week.

GEMINI (May 21-June 20)

Only one more week of Mercury retrograde, and then you'll have to pick up the pace. But until the 17th, when your ruling planet changes gears again, devote as much time as you can to family finances and the assorted emotions that topic generates. Look for the paperwork, review it and, if necessary, revise it while Mercury is still in reverse. These periods pop up every four months to give us a respite from perpetual progress, to let us reevaluate what we've done in the recent past and decide how to proceed until the next Mercury retrograde in mid-October.

CANCER (June 21-July 22)

One or two brilliant ideas, a revealing glimpse into your childhood, a phone call out of the blue -- expect any or all of the above when Mercury meets the sun and Mars in Cancer this week. Now is the time to use your intelligence for purely selfish motives, to take stock and, perhaps, to redirect your energies to get what you, not anybody else, want. If you can't focus on your future during your solar return (a.k.a. birthday), when are you supposed to? Loving Venus makes it pretty painless.

LEO (July 23-August 22)

The weeks before your birthday is the best time to retire or retreat to the privacy of your den, to contemplate your navel. This way, when Leo and your birthday comes around, you'll be refreshed and ready to start a new cycle. So if you feel like stepping far from the madding crowd, to wade through a pile of books in peace and quiet, perhaps to await divine inspiration about what your next move should be, it's perfectly natural, plus the timing is right. It's also a good time to work your charm on a parent, client or employer.

VIRGO (August 23-September 22)

The lightbulb over your head flashes on as your Mercury ruler meets the resourceful Cancer sun and take-action Mars before the weekend is half-way over. No matter what your source of inspiration may be, follow the thread of thought to its conclusion. Mars gives you both the desire and the physical energy required; the sun provides the will to endure and Mercury, the smarts. Since not much else is happening, you should be able to focus on the conversation you're having with yourself; so listen up, you're not always this clear and concise.

LIBRA (September 23-October 22)

Summertime and the easy-livin' Libran is working, and if not, then you're knee-deep in relatives and family affairs. Four planets in your Cancer midheaven drags you into emotional curents you usually avoid; but since Cancer is both needy and caring, you might find yourself nursing the egos of people who, one way or another, call the shots. Because Mercury, the great communicator, is feeding off the sun and Mars, there can be lots of call backs, plus more than a little irritation. Comfort from a more experienced and established executive type.

SCORPIO (October 23-November 21)

If not a cool weekend, then a mild one, at least until the moon gets to Scorpio early Sunday and you become more involved with what's going on. The past can present itself as the main attraction, especially if you're currently into a foreign culture and its cuisine. This fascination with foreign is intermittent -- your Mars co-ruler passes through your Cancer house of travel only once every two years -- but its meeting with retrograde Mercury can cast a historical light on this interest. Who recently drifted back into your life?

SAGITTARIUS (November 22-December 21)

Insights into investments and insurance, family mysteries and the words between members that are seldom spoken, but tacitly understood. (And, no doubt, open to misunderstanding at a later date.) You're also more sensitive to feelings that flow effortlessly, to historical allusions that mean something special while Mercury is in Cancer, the sign of memories. If you need to do research, this would be a good time, particularly after Mercury's meeting with adventurous Mars points you in a new direction.

CAPRICORN (December 22-January 20)

Good luck this weekend trying to keep your mind on anything other than a soon-to-be significant other. Look for tell-tale signs of your growing attachment when affectionate Venus reaches out to your Saturn ruler, the planetary combination that regulates your comfort level and plucks at those heartstrings. Gains from staying the course, being consistent; sweet satisfaction from playing games, creating something artistic or musical. This is a good time to buy yourself a toy that'll last longer than the summer.

AQUARIUS (January 21-February 18)

You're more or less in a work mode, either being a model worker or working out so you can look like a model. A concentration of energy in your Cancerian house of employment and other healthy pursuits puts proper and pleasing nourishment high on your list of what's good for you. Swimming would be another; kayaking (upper body strength), too. Or you could combine food and exercise and go deep-sea fishing. Venus, goddess of the body beautiful, enters Leo, sign of your cosmic mate on the 13th and tweaks your interest in hunks and babes.

PISCES (February 19-March 19)

Fun and games, some of them mentally stimulating because Mercury is in close contact with the sun and Mars, the major energizers of our symbolic system, some strictly physical. Some are purely sensual since pleasure-loving Venus is in your house of romance, entertainment and things of beauty that are a joy forever, e.g., the Murano decanter. Summer is usually when talented Fish are at their most creative, when the sometimes submerged, often-contained expressiveness of this emotional water sign rises to the surface and explodes.
