DURST: Campaign Donations

Bob Dole is trying to impale Clinton on a $425,000 donation from an Indonesian couple, and not having much luck. Seems that the Dolemeister received a couple of bucks from the same source himself. One of those "living in glass houses and playing ping pong naked with paddles made from $1000 bills" things if you ask me.This is all "soft" money, given to the party and not the individual candidates. Almost half a billion, which sounds about as soft as a bowl of sugar frosted railroad spikes So if you plan on waiting for the two parties to reach a compromise on campaign reform this year, you would best be advised to not hold your breath unless you enjoy that certain kind of bluish look most often associated with people who are no longer eligible for social security benefits because they have become very skinny and dead.Phillip Morris has doled out the most "soft" money this year; $2.7 million. 78 percent of it to the Republicans. Which means they are hedging 22 percent of their bets. My wild guess is that it went to the Democrats. Can't see Ralph Nader cashing a check that comes with a Surgeon General's Warning, unless of course it says: "Caution: the Surgeon General has determined these things will make you choke worse than a 61 Corvair." Even then, probably not. He's not taking more than $50 at a time. And 22% of $2.7 million would mean 29,700 checks. And the banks would complain. Will Durst has the banks complain all the time.
