Durst: Bob Dole
They've been sniping at him for months but Bob Dole remains so far in front of his Republican rivals right now, I doubt they can see the back of his pruney little neck due to the curvature of the earth. That's the good news. The bad news is the last member of an opposing party to have this kind of a lead before the first primary was Walter Mondale, who in the general election went on to win almost two entire states. Of course I'm not saying Bill Clinton is Ronald Reagan, although you got to admit Hillary is looking more like Nancy every day. And both of their VP's, George Bush and Al Gore are the sons of US Senators. Coincidence? Yeah, probably. Dole has already been endorsed by 21 of the 31 Republican Governors and I wouldn't be surprised if a couple of the Democratic Governors chimed in on his side as well. I know its hard to tell what's going to happen with so much time left in the campaign. I mean four years ago, Bush had a higher approval rating than puppies. He was up around 72% which coincidentally is the same percentage of the American people who still believe professional wrestling is legitimate.
