Rumors of War: Is Bush Gearing Up to Attack Iran?

By Conn Hallinan, Portside. Posted June 5, 2008.

Something is afoot. Just what is not clear, but recent moves by the White House strongly suggest that Bush will attack Iran in the near future.

The May 8 letter from U.S. Rep. John Conyers Jr., D-Mich., chair of the House Judiciary Committee, to George W. Bush received virtually no media coverage, in spite of the fact that it warned the president that an attack on Iran without Congressional approval would be grounds for impeachment. Rumor has it several senators have been briefed about the possibility of war with Iran.

Something is afoot.

Just what is not clear, but over the past several months, several moves by the White House strongly suggest that the Bush administration will attack Iran sometime in the near future. According to the Asia Times, "a former assistant secretary of state still active in the foreign affairs community" said an air attack will target the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Quds Force garrisons. Not even the White House is bonkers enough to put troops on the ground amid 65 million Iranians.

There is a certain disconnect to all this, particularly given December's National Intelligence Estimate (NIE) concluding that Iran had abandoned its program to build a nuclear weapon. The NIE is the consensus view of all 16 U.S. intelligence services. At the time, the report seemed to shelve any possibility of war with Iran.

However, shortly after the intelligence estimate on Iran was released, the old "into Iraq gang" went to work undermining it.

According to Newsweek, during his Middle East tour in January, Bush "all but disowned the document" to Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert. A "senior administration official" told the magazine, "He [Bush] told the Israelis that he can't control what the intelligence community says but that [the NIE's] conclusions don't reflect his own views."

Neither do they reflect the views of Vice President Dick Cheney or Defense Secretary Robert Gates.

In an interview with ABC during his recent 10-day visit to the region, Cheney downplayed the NIE: "We don't know whether or not they've [the Iranians have] restarted." Cheney also said Iran was seeking to build missiles capable of reaching the United States sometime in the next decade.

On April 21, Gates said that Iran was "hell-bent" on acquiring nuclear weapons, and that, while he was not advocating war with Iran, the military option should be kept on the table.

A month before Gates' comment, the White House quietly extended an executive order stating that Iran represented an "ongoing threat" to U.S. national security. The Bush administration claims that the 2002 resolution that led to the war in Iraq gives it the right to strike at "terrorists" wherever they are. Last September, the Kyl-Lieberman Sense of the Senate resolution designated the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps as a "terrorist organization."

The administration has sharply increased its rhetorical attacks on Iran in a way that is disquietingly similar to the campaign that led to the 2003 invasion of Iraq. Take the current charge that the Quds Force is arming anti-American groups in Iraq and providing them with high-tech roadside bombs and sophisticated rockets.

Gen. David Petraeus, the new head of U.S. Central Command, told the Senate Committee on Armed Services that "special groups" are "funded, trained, armed and directed by Iran's Quds Force. … It was these groups that launched Iranian rockets and mortar rounds at Iraq's seat of government" in the Green Zone.

Patraeus replaced Adm. William "Fox" Fallon, who had openly opposed a military confrontation with Iran.

But the United States has never presented any evidence to back up those charges. U.S. officials say the rockets pounding the Green Zone have Iranian markings on them, but they have yet to show any evidence to that effect. And, as for the special roadside bombs, or the explosively formed penetrators (EFP), the evidence is entirely deductive.

The United States argues that the copper cores used in these bombs requires using a heavy machine press and that Iraq has no such presses. But before the invasion, Iraq was the most industrialized Arab country, with a sophisticated machine tool industry, and a study by Time magazine says the cities of Basra, Karbala and Najaf "may indeed have such presses."

The Time article, "Doubting the Evidence Against Iran," concludes, "No concrete evidence has emerged in public that Iran was behind the weapons [EFPs]. U.S. officials have revealed no captured shipments of such devices and offered no other proof."

The lack of evidence has hardly cooled down the rhetoric. Bush said in a speech at the White House that "two of the greatest threats to America" were Iran and al-Qaeda.

U.S. preparations for war, however, have been more than rhetorical.

According to the Israeli website DEBKAfile, Cheney's trip to the Middle East in March was seen in the region as a possible harbinger of war. "The vice president's choice of capitals for his tour is a pointer to the fact that the military option, off since December, may be on again," DEBKA concluded. "America will need the cooperation of all four [countries he visited] -- Oman, Saudi Arabia, Israel and Turkey."

There has also been a steady buildup of naval and air power in the region. A new aircraft carrier battle group has been assigned to the area, Patriot anti-missile missiles have been deployed, and U.S. Naval forces in the Eastern Mediterranean have been beefed up.

What would likely happen if the United States did elect to attack?

Militarily, there is little Tehran could do in response.

Iran's army is smaller than it was during the Iran-Iraq war, and in a recent "show of force," its air force mustered a total of 140 out-of-date fighters. It navy is mostly small craft, and while it has anti-ship missiles, Tehran would probably think twice about trying to shut down the Gulf. The current regime depends on the sale of oil and gas to shore up its fragile economy.

While the White House portrays the militias in Iraq and Hezbollah as Tehran's cat's-paw, that is nonsense. The militias in both countries will act on the basis of what is in their own interests, not Iran's.

There is talk that Iran might target Israel, but the Israelis have made it clear that any such attack would be met with a massive retaliation, probably nuclear. "An Iranian attack will prompt a severe reaction from Israel," National Infrastructure Minister Binyamin Ben-Eliezer warned, "which would destroy the Iranian nation."

In any case, it is far more likely that Israel would attack Iran than vice versa.

Any U.S. attack would further isolate the United States in the Middle East. Ethan Chorin, of the conservative Center for Strategic and International Studies, says U.S. threats against Iran are running cross-current to efforts by other nations in the Gulf region to establish a détente with Tehran. "The U.S. seeks to defend the Arabs from Iran, but they are increasingly trying to defend themselves from the U.S. efforts to defend them against Iran," he wrote in a recent commentary in the Financial Times.

All the war talk, says Chorin, "is translating into increasing open sympathy on the part of many Gulf Arabs for Iran and increasing skepticism about U.S. efforts to isolate the country."

A U.S. war would deeply divide Europe as well, and might lead to a German withdrawal from Afghanistan. What Russia's, China's and India's responses would be is not clear. China and India are major clients for Iranian natural gas.

Domestically, the Bush administration may see this as its only opportunity to hold on to the White House. The Republicans know they are going to lose seats in the House and the Senate, but at this point the race for the presidency is still tight. Might a new war against the demonized Iranians make voters stick with "war hero" John McCain? It's a long shot, but this administration has always had a major streak of riverboat gambler about it.

All this talk of war, of course, could be sound and fury signifying nothing. But it might also be the run-up to a limited conflict, maybe one set off by a manufactured incident.

Once unleashed, however, no one controls the dogs of war. As hard as it is to imagine, war with Iran might top the Iraq War as a foreign policy disaster.

If this stupid, half-witted, murderous little thug does the unthinkable and attacks the sovereign nation of Iran (like it or not) sans the constitutionally mandated congressional approval, the very first move on the part of the congress should and must be impeachment. The 110th Congress will never be forgiven by the judgement of history otherwise.

The argumenr against impeaching this disgusting little frat boy has always been, "He only has a few months left. How much more damage can he do?" The answer to that question is obvious. He and Dick Cheney can do a whole hell of a lot more damage in the seven and a half months they have left. The failure of this congress to take bold and decisive action against the most corrupt admonistration in history is inexcusable.

Not to be discounted

Especially in an election year of the scale and magnitude of this one, when there is very much at stake and for 'players' of considerable and intense interests in outcomes, this would (or should) not be discounted out of hand. And the field of choice, if what is wished is domestic control and manipulation, would of course be the field of Foreign Policy (that euphemism for outright economic-, political-, and socio-cultural- aggression and imperial expansionism undertaken by the Corporate-State). One could almost say that a 'crisis' of some magnitude is most likely to come about and most likely in the Middle East (i.e. Iran).

Nothing would be more 'ideal' to steer, maneuver, manipulate and engineer the domestic population into a fear- and insecurity-based focus on some kind of 'tension' or outright act of 'national security' justified aggression Elsewhere. It's worked marvellously since the end of WWII. Especially considering the dire issues occurring right here in this country (once thought to be guided by such simple things as a Constitution), it would be no surprise to see a move by the current Regime in the direction of making War.

Despite McCain being the visible face of this Republican cycle (capital "R"), the intricate and well organized Machine 'behind the scenes' in the Political Economy can be counted on to be diligently and efficiently working on their 'Preferred Outcomes' as hinted at in PNAC and other relevant manifestos.

When 'things are afoot' it would be well to have many heads, organized heads, clear heads, questioning heads, investigative heads, looking into matters crucial to us all.

If we attack Iran, we will have done everything 'the terrorists' wanted. Our airlines are going broke, the economy is falling off a cliff, we're entangled in a war that's bleeding our resources, and soon the 'empire' USA will fall down to their knees because if we really do attack Iran we're talking about a 2-3 generation payback. Then we truly will have to worry about suit case nukes and what not - because Iran isn't just a group of fanatics in a cave. The Iranian population is very interesting, as it consists of 50% of the population being under the age of 35 i believe. Many Iranians aren't even that happy with their government, many are very pro western - but if we do strike, we will galvanize those people to become one force, united against the United States.

Someone please explain to me how that will make us safer.

Author mentions that it will be an air strike against Iran because 'not even this administration is bonkers enough' to put men on the ground among 65m Iranians, it's because we have no more troops!

Bush needs more than just impeachment, he and Cheney, Rove, Rice, Powell, Rumsfeld (did i miss anyone) all need to be brought before a world court and tried for crimes against humanity and summarily executed. That's actually too good for them though, they all deserve to rot in prison for the rest of their lives.

If there was a fair election in Iraq Al Sadr, to many Shiites an anti-occupation candidate would win, or the anti-occupation candidates of all stripes would have the majority.

Al Sadr is a sober fellow, and very much doesn't want the US to attack Iran, so anti-Iran hysteria is how the US forces Al Sadr to slowly back down.

These kind of games led to World War I, so I'm not saying war with Iran won't happen. but look to conditions on the ground in Iraq more than Presidential politics here at home as the reason why.

The peace movement warning of an imminent attack day in and day out and imagining that it's warning delayed the attack if it didn't yet occur is not helpful but paying attention to events on the ground for a change would be.

How can you print such lunacy? To suggest a political party would instigate a war to win an election in the United States is insane. It's because of articles like this that devastating things do occur. "Perception management" has become the mainstay of today's media. Yes, the public does tend to believe what it reads! Talk about something long enough and it becomes real.

There is no reason to perpetuate the Bush administration another second. It is imperative to impeach him now and lay his crimes and misdemeanors before the public to prevent further horror and the elevation of an accomplice to the White House. Bush knows that war tames the savage beast of accountability and there is no better time to commence hostility than now and divert attention away from his incompetence. While the world struggles at every global gas pump, think of what attacking Iran will do to OPEC output and crude oil prices. It seems that crimes against humanity and constitutional duty does not influence Congress to action.....perhaps a deeper oil crunch might inspire John Conyers D-MI where the countless demands from me and others to act have failed. Clinton couldn't dance around blowjob mania and the Dems lacked the balls to battle Scalia and the SC over the 2000 election theft. Tipper wouldn't consider impeaching the many transgressions of Reagan and Pelosi won't touch Bush. Perhaps she is the new Lewinsky while Conyers watches the door. Iran will be bombed folks. Bush will walk and then what?

The world coupld get real lucky. Let the chimp and his pal and new found friend Obomber go for Iran. It'll be the final nail in the US coffin and will lead to the collapse of the US. I'm just waiting for the Democrap Lieberman to sign up and then we can be sure. If Russia was clever it would announce that it has workers in Iran and should any of them die as a result of actions by ANY country, they will hold that country responsible for the consequences. Might just focus what little minds that lurk in the dark recesses of the White House still have. We shall see.

It's not about terrorism or security or whatever. If Bush attacks Iran, he knows what the reaction will be - not by Iran, but by markets. Oil will hit $ 300. And that will be great for Bush's cronies, and that's what the Bush administration has been about since day one.

Of course he'll attack. Never mind that Bush has already been responsible for obscene amounts of money transfers from ordinary people to a small, selfish-beyond-comprehension group. He has a few months left to carry out one last, great, hold-up job on the world economy, and he'll do it.

Iran is behind the funding, arming and training of anti US forces in Iraq..they are behind the killing of not only americans but many Iraqi's as well. It is not in Irans interest to see a peaceful government aligned with the US in Iraq.

From what I've read in the past, it seems Iran is heading nuclear and they will sometime in the future most likely have a delivery system that will impact US securty!

But..so does France, Russia, China, England etc..etc..etc.... expanding the war at a time we need to get out is cause for impeachment! You can't just drop a few bombs and call it a day...

You then have to deal with what has to be enormous world criticism, potential closing of oil shippments out of the region, increased violence in Iraq, and a major war where casualties can be 3,000 in one month instead of 6 years!

No doubt Bush doesn't know how to negotiate anything without a gun in his hand...November may be too late - if this is really on the table then he does need to go NOW!

When King Traitor and his dick move, we likely will go along with it. Why? He'll likely perpetrate a false flag attack somewhere in the USA. There have been rumors for a long time that there is a suitcase nuke somewhere (likely manufactured by the good 'ole Department of Energy (buy american!)) in the country waiting for the order. When it goes off, Iran, al-queda and other 'terrorists' will be blamed for it. If this happens, the american public will, just like the fear-led sheep they have all become since 9-11, scream for Iranian blood. Once the antihero in office gives the order, get ready for an immediate reinstatement of the draft (the draft boards have been fully re-staffed for the last few years, by the way... why do we need them if there is no draft?), followed by a suspension of the constitution due to a library's worth of executive orders and signing statements. This means the legislature is disbanded, the supreme court scuttled, elections canceled (can't let no democrat into office... 'specially one 'o 'dem colored peoples, doncha know!) etc. Martial law follows that and after that is anybody's guess.

There *will* be a war before the Bastard leaves office, and nobody seems willing or able to stop him.

We won't be the ones attacking. It will be Israel, which Bush has asked for this favor. Bush will still use this emergency to stay in power.

First thing that will happen is Oil will shoot up over $200. People will start to park their Priuses even as too expensive to drive. And the Great Depression will ensue, along with World War 3.

Are we better off now than in, say, 1999?

As my daughter sings in one of her best songs (see www.lilaburns.com ) "Bring back SARS and Brink back Y2K! Bring back OJ Simpson and maybe Joan Benet....."

But lets get rid of Bush. Impeachment anybody? Maybe now that the Democrats are done with Hillary (or that is, Hillary is done looking at herself in the mirror) they can do something real for a change.

Manifest Destiny, is it? Or should we call it "The March to the East?"

That's what Hitler called his WWII effort to invade and control the Middle East, which, along with Russia's oilfields, was intended to be the fuel depot for his Thousand Year Reich. This comparison is particularly apt, as GW Bush's grandfather, Prescott, was a major Nazi supporter.

This is all documented: http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/ 2004/sep/25/usa.secondworldwar:

"George Bush's grandfather, the late US senator Prescott Bush, was a director and shareholder of companies that profited from their involvement with the financial backers of Nazi Germany.
The Guardian has obtained confirmation from newly discovered files in the US National Archives that a firm of which Prescott Bush was a director was involved with the financial architects of Nazism.

His business dealings, which continued until his company's assets were seized in 1942 under the Trading with the Enemy Act, has led more than 60 years later to a civil action for damages being brought in Germany against the Bush family by two former slave labourers at Auschwitz and to a hum of pre-election controversy.
"

The economic agenda of the Nazis is similar to that of BushCo, though they have dropped the racism and eugenic theory that was a hallmark of that earlier era, while clinging to the original notion of establishing foreign oil protectorates to nurture "The New American Century". How glorious, huh?

Belacquajones.blogspot.com/ spelled it all out a few days ago:

"An Ode to Greatness
Dear George,

Greatness always sweeps from the north, driven by Nordic hearts with souls burnt by the ice winds that roar down from the pole; with eyes hardened by long winter night spent dreaming dreams of glory.

Greatness is drawn by the lush foliage of the south peopled by an indolent brownness that knows neither the value of work nor the value of a dollar nor the value of the wealth buried beneath huts of grass.

Nor does indolence worship the pinch-faced God of the North with his mighty sword of righteousness that denudes the land to make way for the economic expansion that is his Will.

The Nordic heart is drawn to the sands of Arabia flushed green with the petrodollars that pour forth from the barren earth.

The Nordic mission is a holy mission to baptize the heathen in the ice waters of free enterprise and unhindered capital flow. With the blood of their women and children they make the sign of the cross on their foreheads, and from the pools of blood that coagulate in their decimated villages mighty pyramids rise resting on the shoulders of the poor and the downtrodden who refuse to accept icy baptism from the North.

Our greatness our ability to view the world through the cracked lens of an ideology run amok. We destroy cultures that they may rise again from the dead ready to compete in the open market even though the deck is forever stacked against them.

Long may the north wind freeze our hearts and steel them for the destiny that awaits us as we trod the thorny path of economic suicide in our quest to create the world in our image, which is the only image worth creating even if doing so reduces it to dust.

Your admirer,
Belacqua Jones

Tasty, isn't it?

The best word to describe this Presidency

Bullshit!

That's about all I can come up with to describe this tragic fiasco in the White House.

Of course they'll have to manufacture a threat to get the sweating, shrill Nixon elected over the presidential Obama (and for those not quick enough to understand Obama can't play the "peace dove" card in an election year, so his rhetoric is going to be more hawkish, because, if he does play the "peace dove" card, everyone on the right starts calling him a "pussy" and we, the electorate, are just stupid enough to say "that's right!" and buy this bag of slop...again.

McCain is more of the same garbage of perpetual war leading to the continuing economic and moral destruction of our country, so if we like what's going on now, let's "vote green," or get upset "it's not Hillary," or once again use some asinine reason (my sister-in-law didn't vote for Kerry because "he wore his pants too tight") to throw away our vote. Let's all get behind this other SOB and hell let's break out the nuclear weapons. If we're going to do it, let's just go all the way and stop being such pussies. Bullshit!

A Message To Honorable US Military People

I plead with all honorable members of the US military who might be asked to aid in the continued bullying by the Bush administration of lesser countries such as Iran.

Please stand down if asked to attack Iran.

You will not be traitors for doing so. PLEASE, act according to your consciences. PLEASE do what is truly right.
You joined the military to help maintain freedom. But an attack on Iran, especially now, would be totally antithetical to that goal.

For how you will be judged by God is infinitely more important that how you will be judged by the state.
Again, please do what is right. You may be America's final hope.

Why Bush will bomb Iran

When acting as Commander-in-Chief, George W.’s most important constitutional role, he reminds me of an adage from my high school ROTC days about military leadership.

Generally speaking, when applied to commissioned officers, there are four kinds:

1. Assertive and competent

2. Lazy and competent

3. Lazy and incompetent

4. Assertive and incompetent.

While an assertive competent officer is ideal, the competent lazy one can be a good leader as well because he or she learned out of necessity how to delegate authority and responsibilities wisely. Conversely, lazy incompetent officers have a very short career in our armed forces.

Tragically for GIs in Iraq for years to come, perhaps decades, Commander-in-Chief Bush falls in the last category. It's also why he will bomb Iran sometime this year.

Perhaps, as Ralph Nader claimed, "Things are a lot worse than we thought!" The very reason this complicit congress failed to initiate impeachment proceedings, may be happening anyway. How ironic.

With Senator Obama and Senator Clinton, both cozying-up and reassuring a major component of our shadow government, AIPAC, is there any reason to believe that our foreign policy will change significantly should Obama win the presidency in November? It's very unlikely.

After listening to the interviews on NPR's "Diane Rehm" show this morning, I am quite confident that we won't have any idea what's going on in Iran, Iraq, or anywhere else as long as big media are the only ones with access. Diane Rehm and her guests: Richard Engel, (NBC News' chief foreign correspondent) and Kimberly Dozier, (CBS correspondent) all came off sounding more like apologists for American empire-building than anything approaching detached journalists. They have obviously "drunk the cool-aid" and are so far gone that they seemed not to even detect their own bias. MSM is now nothing more than another arm of corporatism, and the journalists themselves do not even realize it. If we want to understand what the REAL situation is in Iran, Iraq, and elsewhere it's going to be up to sites like Alternet to get the word out there. Thanks Alternet!

Some Serious Errors in Story
Posted by: leveymg on Jun 5, 2008 8:36 AM
Current rating: 3    [1 = poor; 5 = excellent]
First, Secretary Gates does not support any sort of preemptive attack on Iran. The author omitted Gate's statement at West Point:

"Another war in the Middle East is the last thing we need and, in fact, I believe it would be disastrous on a number of levels."

Even with Gates’ obligatory nod to keeping all options on the table, given what he calls "the destabilizing policies of the regime and the risks inherent in a future Iranian nuclear threat . . ." there’s still quite a difference in emphasis here.

Second, neither the Iraq War Resolution nor the post-9/11 Authorization for Use of Force authorize any military action outside Iraq except that which is directed at terrorists found to have been directly involved in the 9/11 attacks. There is simply no connection established between between the 9/11 attacks and the al Quds Brigades of the Iranian Revoltionary Guard Corps, or any other agency of Iran.

This is more sabre-rattling, the same as we've been hearing from the same suspect sources for several years. The US is simply not in a position to prevail militarily or politically in another preemptive war. It's not in the national interest, so the Pentagon's not going to do it.

First there will be a Gulf of Tonkin Incident, a Kuwait Invasion, or Pearl Harbor (for the Kellie Pickler types, that was a supposedly surprise attack by Japan on the U.S. Fleet in Hawaii - that's where Pearl Harbor is . . .). Maybe Iran will have attacked someone, or an ally of the U.S. (guess who?) will attack Iran. To get all the peace-lovers who have changed their minds about our Napoleon, he will need another 9-11. He knows it worked once, and it would probably work again. As I said the other day concerning a Newsweek article on the subject of U.S. public stupidity, stupidity here is becoming a major factor in the world. Sixty million of the stupidest and most historically ignorant people on earth are about to elect the commander in chief of the most powerful military conceivable by the mind of man, a military with literally thousands of nuclear weapons. If that doesn't - as Bill Cosby used to say - "shake up your spinal cord," nothing will.

The American Police State
Current mood: determined
Category: News and Politics

Recently Prayer Walker were attacked by Columbus Ohio police. One person was wrestled to the ground by cops in front of his children. In another part of the country a young high school student was arrested by police for speaking out about an attack on a fellow student. When he pointed out he had the right to speak under the First Amendment, that's when the cops came, denying him that right.

This kind of beatdowns by the ruling class has been going on for much much longer than most of us can remember.Union organizers back in the beginning of the 1900's were targeted by police to be killed and beaten by the very same corperations we still see in business. They were called criminals by big business and that's when beat cops got the right to be armed and it's been all down hill from there.

The government ran a policy of sterilizing Indian women after giving birth all the way up until the 1970's, now they use Indian lands to store toxic waste, killing more people off with pollution-borne disease, still advancing the government's policy of Indian Genocide started back before the Declartion was written. Every Treaty written was broken. These were'nt Peace Treaties that our Europeian forebearers were used to being issued to stop hostilities, not by a long shot. Treaties in America were 'sales aggreements'. Aggreements that were never,NEVER honored. Kind of like you offering to buy my house, then you move in,trash the joint and never pay for the place. This proves that whitefolks can't be totally trusted. Those of us who have grown past the evils of our elders are no longer 'white' but rather 'light'. This signals a change is comming.

This still does'nt stop the police state tactics this government chooses to use against it's citizens. I've talked to many folks from many differing races and to a person they say if they had to talk to a cop they hope it isn't one of their own race. Why? Because there's an almost 100% chance they will be beaten up by those cops. We only hear about it when it's a Rodney King type of beating. I'll tell you now there are thousands of Rodney Kings being done everyday. The government wants to disarm us. I say we should disarm them!!!!

The police exist to protect and serve the wealthy. They always have. They protect them from we the people and serve at the whim and dictate of whomever is the wealthiest in their region. In fact there's a small town, chock full of wealthy folks and the job of the cops is to make very uncomfortable anyone that looks like they don't belong in their town. Even if you are just passing through. I got this treatment walking through Beverly Hills Ca. A cop rolled up beside me and told me to stop siteseeing and get out of town. My only intention was to see Beverly Hills and say 'I've been there.' Now all I can say is 'I was Harressed there'.

If you belong to an advocacy group, you're probably on a DHS watch list. As well as environmentalists, social justice and Human rights groups. In fact if a Boy Scout Troop protested their jamboree being illegally moved they too would be on a DHS list.
We've just been fooled into thinking those who represent us truly do. They don't. They work for the Corperations that fund the government. This is the New World Order.

A country run by Corperations is not a Free country. It's a controlled country run by sleazy perverts that only respect money and think of you and I as expendable units.

Yes we have a huge mess on our hands, but it's not one that can't be fixed. I believe we can do it,I believe we will do it,I believe history will show we were the people that stood up and saved humanity from shortsighted, narrowminded, hypocrits and gave eachother...LIFE. Just Gimme some truth!!!!

We all know that Bushco is lying every time one of them crawls out from under a rock and opens their mouth, so I just wonder what the REAL agenda is here?

We all know that they invaded Iraq to control their oil and not because of the reasons that are now proven to be lies so it's obvious that they wouldn't attack Iran for the reasons they give.

So what's the reason? Does anyone know?

What does Bush have to gain with an Iraq invasion of Iran? One answer comes to mind. Create a disaster in Iraq so that we need McCain on that wall. The Maliki Shia government that we support is the exact government that Iran wants in power. If we attack Iran those al Badr Shia will retaliate in Iraq. An Iran attack will ratchet up the US casualties in Iraq, thus putting any talk of peace and withdrawal on the back burner. See you later Obama, we need to protect those soldiers today. We can switch our allegiance to the Arab Sunni and al Sadr Shia, over throw the Maliki government and get an Iraqi government that is a little more hostile towards Iran. If we are lucky the resulting Iraq civil war could develop into an Iran-Iraq war. We could just go around and kill every body for years and you people think Bush is stupid. Look at the economic stimulus, we could supply weapons to the Iraqi nationalists to use against Iran in place of Iran supplying them weapons to use against us. Damn didn’t we already do this once when we were kicking the Russians out of Iraq. However this time we will be right where we want to be. Obama wins anyway ah there’s the rub.

I would not ne surprised if Bush were "to pull something"--enough at any rate that would enable him to send Congress home and rule by decree. When "911" happened I turned to my wife and said "this is Bush's 'Reichstagsfeuer'". I am afraid it was. It would be well to take a good long time reading the 2nd § of Jefferson's "Declaration of Independence" in which he not only speaks about the fact that all are born equal and have certain inalienable rights. It is to protect these rights that governments are created and should they no longer protect those rights that the people are entirely entitled to remove them and install another more inclined to do so.

This is a real danger. If the various administrations would not make senseless war (to which they are not constitutionally entitled) but try to heal the shameful conditions in the US. About 20% without health insurance and almost all the rest ensured on paper but unable to meet co-payments they are functionally uninsured. Patients are not here as a source of profit!! 20% of Americans earn $8.50/hour, 25% go hungry a signicant part of the year, homeless old people (who are drunk derelicts but people who worked in occupations without pension and at such a low salary that social security will be mineral. The golden years of retirement are for the well to do; those who were poor their whole life now will dig the Gold for the Rich.

I do not understand what this nation is doing. We shall I hope have Obama as President and one only hopes that he is not assasinated or burdened with a VP like Clinton. One must understand that if Obama is President it will be several years--if ever--before he has undone what Bush "hath wrought". The conditions in this nation are so shameful that one would think that people would rise in outrage but it seems that our sense of outrage is too busy dealing with the wrong change or the sex-life of various officials. As a Democratic Socialist I am horrified. I grew up until late 1938 first in a completely devastated economy, then in a Fascism (called Austrofascism)and then under Hitler. Escape was simply a matter of luck. Most of us who have lived during this time agree with me: the air smells like it did before Hitler actually came.#

"Obama has made himself unpopular in Pakistan by saying the United States should act alone on information about terrorist targets within the country's national borders, leading some to believe he will be worse for the country than Bush."

"Obama has threatened attacks against us even before becoming the president, and he will be more dangerous compared to Bush," said Ibrar Ahmad, 34, a lecturer at the Government College in Multan."

And in the Middle East, there was skepticism that an Obama presidency would change an American foreign policy viewed by most Muslims as staunchly pro-Israel.

Obama reinforced that view in a speech to Jewish leaders in Washington Wednesday, saying that "as president I will never compromise when it comes to Israel's security."

"The upcoming president, whether he is black or white, would have the same policy," said Tarek Abdullah, an Egyptian store vendor. "Their Middle East policy and their policies towards Muslims in general will always be the same."

Iranian Oil Bourse -- The Reason U.S. Will Attack Soon
Posted by: nochicagoboys on Jun 5, 2008 4:24 PM
Current rating: 4    [1 = poor; 5 = excellent]
It is obvious the invasion of Iraq had less to do with any threat from Saddam Hussein's long-gone WMD program and certainly less to do to do with fighting terrorism than it has to do with gaining strategic control over Iraq’s hydrocarbon reserves and in doing so maintain the U.S. dollar as the monopoly currency for the critical international oil market. Hussein's fate was sealed just prior to the 2000 U.S. elections, when he started demanding payment in non-U.S. dollars for Iraqi oil exports.

"Operation Iraqi Freedom" was a war designed to install a pro-U.S. government in Iraq, establish multiple U.S. military bases before the onset of global "Peak Oil", and to reconvert Iraq back to petrodollars while, at the same time, hoping to thwart further OPEC momentum towards the euro as an alternative oil transaction currency (i.e. “petroeuro”). Similar to the Iraq war, probable military operations against Iran relate to the macroeconomics of "petrodollar recycling" and the unpublicized challenge to U.S. dollar supremacy, from the euro, as the oil transaction currency.

Iran committed a far greater “offense” than Saddam Hussein's conversion to the euro for Iraq’s oil exports in the fall of 2000. This past February, the Tehran government formally instituted the Iranian oil bourse which will begin competing with New York's NYMEX and London's IPE with respect to international oil trades – using a euro-based international oil-trading mechanism.

The Iranian oil bourse signifies that without some sort of U.S. intervention, the euro is going to establish a firm foothold in the international oil trade. Given U.S. debt levels and the neoconservative project of U.S. global domination, Tehran’s objective constitutes an obvious encroachment on dollar supremacy in the crucial international oil market.

The bourse will introduce petrodollar versus petroeuro currency hedging, and fundamentally new dynamics to the biggest market in the world - global oil and gas trades. In essence, the U.S. will no longer be able to effortlessly expand its debt-financing via issuance of U.S. Treasury bills, and the dollar’s international demand/liquidity value will fall. This, in effect, will have an incalculable affect on the U.S. economy, potentially pushing it into a depression of unimaginable magnitude. The effects are surely being felt now, and will continue for the unforeseen future.

My guess is Bush will attack Iran, propping-up Obama to look like the "good guy" who will initiate discussions with the Iranian government very early in his presidency. Assuming negotiation and diplomacy fail, continued aggression will be the hallmark of U.S. foreign policy.

What a laugh Conyers. You gutless wonders should have started proceeding within the first 6 months of regaining congress. If he attacks in August, are you telling me that this
gutless congress would attempt to impeach a
war time president with only 5 months to go in
his term? That is laughable, and Bush is laughing right now at all you wimps. This is the plan to get all the middle east oil, and to get their Surrogate John McCain elected.
The ole wartime sentiment always works.

It is "Wag The Dog" time for the Republican Party. The only hope they have is another Phoney Terror War with the only Arab nation left that doesn't sleep in George's bed. They believe that the distraction of another war will make McCain the seasoned warrior their new King.

It may come to the military disobeying unlawful orders coming from the White House. The Nazis tried the "we were only following orders" excuse and were hung, somebody remind the Generals and Admirals they too can be tried, convicted, and hung for war crimes.

Jim Tucker is at the Bilderberg conference in Chantilly, VA right now. When the conference is over he will interview his attende contacts and we will KNOW whether an attack on Iran is imminent. Any speculation prior to this is pointless.

Bush will attack Iran if you had any doubt the AIPAC conference was for me the confirmation of this..

Bush will do this in part for purely political reasons knowing it may aid McCain's election as people will once again be subject to fear and we'll be in a war that will make Iraq look like the pre-game show in comparison..

Also even if McCain loses the election this huge war and mess will leave the Obama administration hogtied as to reforms and also retrain our nation financially to try and Serve it's People rather than the Military Industrial Fascist Corporate Complex..

From Bush's perspective a war with Iran is a win win..only America loses and he could give two sh^ts about that..

Screw impeachment! Arrest and prosecute Dubya and his Dick for putting America's Best in harms way without congressional approval.

This threat of attacking Iran, by the way, is the consequence of Congress not holding Bush accountable for everything he's already done. What did they think? That he would learn from his mistakes? Evil people do not learn!

the wider US audience. The rumblings have been there for months, but our "news" does not report it in detail, nor does it elaborate on the possible ramifications of these rumblings. It's deja vu all over again. Why can't the media inform? Is it too much to ask?

These two undeclared, illegal wars going on in Afganistan and Iraq, where close to a million have died and a soverign country has been destroyed will ultimatley bring our once great country to its knees. Expanding hostilities into Iran will only accelerate our downfall. This insane war mongering is the main cause of our runaway energy and food costs and the decline of the dollar. While Congress and the MSM slept Bush destroyed America.

Israel is in charge here, and requests ( some might call it extortion) the USA to attack Iran. All of the power elite here are eager for it. It will be very profitable to them. It will happen, probably sooner than later. The masses will pay, in every way.

Afghanistan is going down the tubes. Lots of troops there.
Iraq? well? Lots of troops there-but no Brits or Australians there anymore. Iraq's P.M. is an ally of Iran.
So-- Iran IS really dangerous? where will US troops come from. Do I hear draft, anyone? Do I hear forced extended tours
Worse what if the boy who cried wolf is actually right for once

"A top Israeli official has said that if Iran continues with its alleged nuclear arms programme, Israel will attack it.

Earlier this week, Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said Iran's nuclear programme must be stopped by what he termed all possible means.

"If Iran continues with its programme for developing nuclear weapons, we will attack it. The sanctions are ineffective," Mr Mofaz told Yediot Ahronot.

"Attacking Iran, in order to stop its nuclear plans, will be unavoidable," he said.

let's end his turn with a bang! The mess he has already done seems not to be big enough. After two lost wars it's best to start a third.
