Half of Baghdad Still Without Water

By Ahmad Raheema, Azzaman. Posted February 18, 2008.

Despite the talk of progress, Iraq remains a nightmare.
Upcoming AlterNet stories on Digg

Power failures and maintenance have disrupted running water supplies to almost half of the capital, Baghdad, home to nearly 6 million people.

A Baghdad Municipality source said the project supplying drinking water to Rasafa, the eastern half of Baghdad, was temporarily idle.

The source, refusing to be named, said running water supplies may not resume for a few days.

He attributed the stoppage, which has caused large-scale popular resentment, to blackouts which have recently even affected essential utilities like water.

The stoppage has led to the closure of bakeries and restaurants in Rasafa, aggravating the suffering of Baghdad residents.

Water resumed intermittently and in inadequate quantities through household taps for half a day after a three-stoppage on Thursday. Then the taps dried once again.

What is the difference between 'talk' of progress and 'real' progress?
Just who is talking of progress? The BS administration.... ? Everyone in the world knows that they are always lying.

Who else 'talks' about progress in Iraq ?
When half the population, not counting millions of animals, have no water to drink and no food to eat.... there can be no 'talk' of progress, however cleverly worded.
This war is a shame for all Americans who have supported and are still supporting the a-hole in chief, who was known to be incompetent and a degenerate, and who alone is responsible for this disaster.
Look at the idiot, "dancing" in Afrika.
He is not the slightest bit selfconscious, being known to the world as the simpleton president who can read "My Pet Goat" without having to look up words in the dictionary.
And this guy runs this country? Still?
(Into the ground, I may add.)
