our chickens come home to roost, amen pastor. but the hondurans get to bleed. the right wing of our government still has enough power to keep the sick puppies down south in power. that because our dems just don't seem to have the power in their backside to do what's correct. its seems that hitler was just an extreme of what's a normal part of any countries politics. we certainly have had our little hitlers, responsible for murdering, torturing and just viciously ruining peoples lives.

From Europe or the East. Central America is our garden and New Orleans is the gate.

I'm not certain what to make of the format used here. If you've been south of the border, you understand the audience that exists for this art. Perhaps this is an attempt to call attention to the issue amongst Latino Americans here in the US. They are going to realize their political heft at some point.

This is the first peep I've heard in a week or two. DN! and TRNN also have been sort of quiet on Honduras. I hope this is due to lack of new info and not a news blackout ... that would be doubly appalling in the alternative press.

This pro-Zelaya scenario says flat-out that Zelaya was trying to force a Constitutional convention on Honduras, for no apparent reason, and that he had no power to do so. The Courts tried to stop this, so Zelaya attempted to seize control of the Army (by replacing it's top general), and when that didn't work (because he also lacked the power to do that), his supporters stole the ballot papers from military bases and announced they were going to run the referendum themselves.

Sounds to me a lot like an authoritarian air-head got a fancy title, let the prestige go to his head, went on an insane power trip, and then had the stones to act innocent when everyone else got tired of his crap.

Don't get me wrong. I don't mean to white-wash our past involvement in the region, or claim that the anti-Zelaya guys are not on an extra-legal power trip of their own, but IMO there are plenty of third-world politicians who deserve our support more than this idiot.

Comic Book Newz

I see the rise of the 'graphic novel' as a symbol of how screwed up America has become. When you have to put news or historical information in a cheesy comic book format just to get the slackers to give it a look we are in trouble.

The image is a 'toon of the now famous photo later re-rendered by a painter in a piece called "Molotov Man." Harper's Magazine had a piece on the copyright hoohah over this image, which left the photojournalist in a quandry and with much shame and embarrassment thanks to her hyperactive attorneys and her own ethical interest in maintaining the journalistic contextual and historical integrity of the original photo. It also has a fascinating and scintillating tale of how "Molotov Man" became a cause celebre in Italy where it was dubbed "Pepsi Man" and picked up by anti-corporate globalists as an iconic rallying cry against Pepsico's malfeasance in Italian politics (quoi?!).

One wonders if her overzealous attorneys will come after the authors of this little "comic", particularly because yet again, another artist has decontextualized the content. At least in "Molotov Man" it was a derivative or interpretive work decontextualizing the imagery precisely to make an artistic statement, whereas this panel just makes the claim that this image depicts Nicaragua in '79 when in fact the original photo depicts ARGENTINA! (ooooooo someone's in trouble.... don't tell mom!)

Oh well, so much for accuracy and original intentions...
