Breaking the Taboo on Israel's Spying Efforts on the United States

By Christopher Ketcham, AlterNet. Posted March 10, 2009.

Israel runs one of the most aggressive and damaging espionage networks targeting the U.S., yet public discussion about it is almost nil.

Scratch a counterintelligence officer in the U.S. government and they'll tell you that Israel is not a friend to the United States.

This is because Israel runs one of the most aggressive and damaging espionage networks targeting the U.S..  The fact of Israeli penetration into the country is not a subject oft-discussed in the media or in the circles of governance, due to the extreme sensitivity of the U.S.-Israel relationship coupled with the burden of the Israel lobby, which punishes legislators who dare to criticize the Jewish state.  The void where the facts should sit is filled instead with the hallucinations of conspiracy theory -- the kind in which, for example, agents of the Mossad, Israel’s top intelligence agency, engineer the 9/11 attacks, while 4,000 Israelis in the Twin Towers somehow all get word to escape before the planes hit.  The effect, as disturbing as it is ironic, is that the less the truth is addressed, the more noxious the falsity that spreads.

Israel's spying on the U.S., however, is a matter of public record, and neither conspiracy nor theory is needed to present the evidence.   When the FBI produces its annual report to Congress concerning "Foreign Economic Collection and Industrial Espionage," Israel and its intelligence services often feature prominently as a threat second only to China. In 2005 the FBI noted, for example, that Israel maintains "an active program to gather proprietary information within the United States."  A key Israeli method, said the FBI report, is computer intrusion.  In 1996, the Defense Intelligence Service, a branch of the Pentagon, issued a warning that "the collection of scientific intelligence in the United States [is] the third highest priority of Israeli Intelligence after information on its Arab neighbors and information on secret U.S. policies or decisions relating to Israel."  In 1979, the Central Intelligence Agency produced a scathing survey of Israeli intelligence activities that targeted the U.S. government.  Like any worthy spy service, Israeli intelligence early on employed wiretaps as an effective tool, according to the CIA report.  In 1954, the U.S. Ambassador in Tel Aviv discovered in his office a hidden microphone "planted by the Israelis," and two years later telephone taps were found in the residence of the U.S. military attaché.  In a telegram to Washington, the ambassador at the time cabled a warning: "Department must assume that all conversations [in] my office are known to the Israelis." The former ambassador to Qatar, Andrew Killgore, who also served as a foreign officer in Jerusalem and Beirut, told me Israeli taps of U.S. missions and embassies in the Middle East were part of a "standard operating procedure."

According to the 1979 CIA report, the Israelis, while targeting political secrets, also devote "a considerable portion of their covert operations to obtaining scientific and technical intelligence." These operations involved, among other machinations, "attempts to penetrate certain classified defense projects in the United States."   The penetrations, according to the CIA report, were effected using "deep cover enterprises," which the report described as "firms and organizations, some specifically created for, or adaptable to, a specific objective."  At the time, the CIA singled out government-subsidized companies such as El Al airlines and Zim, the Israeli shipping firm, as deep cover enterprises.  Other deep cover operations included the penetration of a U.S. company that provided weapons-grade uranium to the Department of Defense during the 1960s; Israeli agents eventually spirited home an estimated 200 pounds of uranium as the bulwark in Israel’s secret nuclear weapons program.  Moles have burrowed on Israel’s behalf throughout the U.S. intelligence services.  Perhaps most infamous was the case of Jonathan Pollard, a Jewish-American employed as a civilian analyst with the U.S. Navy who purloined an estimated 800,000 code-word protected documents from inside the CIA, the Defense Intelligence Agency, and numerous other U.S. agencies.  While Pollard was sentenced to life in prison, counterintelligence investigators at the FBI suspected he was linked to a mole far higher in the food chain, ensconced somewhere in the DIA, but this suspected Israeli operative, nicknamed "Mr. X," was never found.   Following the embarrassment of the Pollard affair -- and its devastating effects on U.S. national security, as testified by then Defense Secretary Caspar Weinberger (who allegedly stated that Pollard "should have been shot") -- the Israeli government vowed never again to pursue espionage against its ally and chief benefactor.

Fast-forward a quarter century, and the vow has proven empty.  In 2004, the authoritative Jane's Intelligence Group noted that Israel's intelligence organizations "have been spying on the U.S. and running clandestine operations since Israel was established."  The former deputy director of counterintelligence at FBI, Harry B. Brandon, last year told Congressional Quarterly magazine that "the Israelis are interested in commercial as much as military secrets. They have a muscular technology sector themselves."  According to CQ, "One effective espionage tool is forming joint partnerships with U.S. companies to supply software and other technology products to U.S. government agencies."

Israel has proven to be to be the wrong friend for the US, Israel cannot be trusted. If we want peace in the Middle East, the solution is to drop Israel as our "ally", take on the Palestinians and Hamas as our new allies in the Middle East.

despite the recent admission by guantanamo detainees, supposedly, there is also an admission by a u.s. official that evidence exists linking the events of 9/11 not to Arab Muslims, and that this evidence had been CLASSIFIED.

"Israel runs one of the most aggressive and damaging espionage networks targeting the U.S., yet public discussion about it is almost nil."Because Israel is the country's best friend, and if they want to spy on us, they should be able to. Anybody who suggests they shouldn't is just an anti-semite.

Hell, we're all a bunch of filthy Anti-Semites for not just giving them the information they want.

Note - we have no means of checking on this:

Some yars ago now, our intelligence contacts told us that they had heard, but could not verify this, that there were indications that the Lewinsky affair was a Mossad operation. If so it helped get the world eight years of super-pro Israeli G W Bush with a little help from Karl Rove and the Supreme Court - that would make it historically one of the, if not the, most effective SPA ("special political action") operations ever carried out.

The suggestion was that Miss Lewisky was (as the intelligence people call it) a non-conscious agent of Mossad - i.e. she did not know she was being manipulated by Israeli intelligence.

That her mother could have been a "conscious agent" (though it was thought likely that Mossad would have had another intermediary between Miss Lewinsky and a Mossad officer).

That a key element which attracted US intelligence interest was the dress that clinched Miss Lewisky's involvement with the President - for it was put in a refrigerator, allegedly by the mother, to keep the evidence fresh. Indeed this did arouse suspicion that the mother at least had some undisclosed motive for doing this.

That the facts surrounding the Lewinsky affair clearly called for thorough investigation, but, because of the extreme political delicacy of the matter - Israeli/US relations in particular, as well as internal US party concerns - no proper investigation was ever mounted.

We would be very interested in hearing from anyone with better sources than we have. It is surely a speculation that should either be discarded (as come sort of conspiracy theory) or properly followed up.

Mossad Had its Hand in 9-11

Current rating: 5    [1 = poor; 5 = excellent]
I agree with the premise of the article but I could not read beyond the first paragraph since this author thinks that Mossad could not have anything to do with 9/11. I assume that this author thinks that the 9/11 commission determined the truth about what happened that day.
Mossad Agents were arrested on 9/11 after videotaping the twin towers collapsing from the New Jersey side of the Hudson River. They were celebrating and cheering as they watched the towers collapse.

Why would they be happy? Because they knew it was the beginning of the well-planned false flag attack on the United States that would result in the US establishing a strong foothold in the Middle East. Israel would have US military bases in Afghanistan and Iraq and probably soon in Iran.
The Mossad most likely worked with elements of the dual citizen Israeli neocons in the Bush administration to plan and orchestrate 9/11.

For much more information go to 911inside job.net.

Current rating: 5    [1 = poor; 5 = excellent]
At the core of this article rests a single, vital issue that must be honestly dealt with, once and for all. Our treatment of the country of Israel as some "special, privileged, do-no-wrong" state has to stop. It is only one of the many countries in the world that all others must interact with and its actions and behaviors are too often not in the best interests of the US or the rest of the world and still they are treated with kid gloves. Palistinians live in a labor camp, Israel takes any and all reaction from them as an excuse for radically violent response. They receive huge amounts of money from us. They spy on us. And the whole Middle East is a tinder box because they will not assume full leadership responsibility for achieving peace with the Palistinians. They have nuclear weapons but act as if they are somehow justified in having them while other nations are not.

We cannot continue to be bullied into supporting everything Israel does because we are afraid of the inevitable anti-semite charges that follow even a hint of criticism. A large portion of Israelis feel this was as well (see jstreet.org). The world does not belong to either the US or Israel and it is time to stop pretending it does.

The author writes that it is disturbing that 9/11 truth is not addressed enough but he doesn't contribute any of his own. He points out that 4000 Israelis are said to be warned not to show up on 9/11, but he doesn't say they did show up. Nowhere can I find records showing that more than one Israeli died in the Towers.

The author mentions Zim Shipping as being an Israeli spy organization but does not mention that Zim moved out of the trade towers a week before the attacks, forfeiting a $50,000 lease.
Of course they were probably reimbursed by Larry Silverstein. Zim moved to Virginia to be close to CIA headquarters.

The author mentions the Israeli Art Student spies but does not mention they were operating in Florida in the area where Atta and others were training.

He mentions the NSA throwing a party for Bamford but does not connect the dots that Bamford is their "limited hangout" guy. He reveals what they are okay with in order to cover up what they want hidden.

Israel is the bad guy behind so many bad things that happen here? They're portrayed as being an invisible force for evil and mayhem. Could it be that there's a simpler explination for their behavior? Lesee, now....Oh yeah, maybe they're SCARED HALF TO DEATH OF THE US as so many other countries are, including the old Soviet Union, North Korea, and Iran, for instance. Remember, Israel is vastly outnumbered and outgunned by everyone around them, so it's understandable that anything that happens here, including 911 that is likely to set us against the Arab world would be cause for celebration. As for Israel being scared of us, can you blame them, after eight years of the psychotic bush crime spree?

What an Albatross the US is carrying. Why? Why is the US, its government, its politicians and its people allowing Israel to do these reprehensible things? What hold does Israel have on the US that nobody is talking about? Is it all of the wealthy Zionists controlling US politics and media? Is it the venality of Congress, selling their votes to AIPAC? What in Heaven's name is it? Are these wealthy people supposedly supporting Israel even against the best interests of the US in fact traitors? Should they be arrested, charged and tried for treason? The people of the US are starting to wise up about this kind of treacherous behaviour and anti-Zionism will continue to rise because of it. The only way to put a stop to all of these egregious activities is to bring the matter into the public arena, discuss it thoroughly and commence remedial action.

AIPAC Is a Major Part of the Problem

James A. Swanson, Los Altos, CA
“The Bush League of Nations” [for FREE download of entire $25.95 book]

There are major differences between America’s mainstream press and that of the rest of the Western World regarding Israel. Gaza is just one recent example.

America’s media willingly engage in self-censorship. As for voices from the rest of the civilized world, an overwhelming supermajority does speak up for Gaza and the Palestinians.

Why does America’s Big Media censor itself and not fairly present the Palestinian side?

The American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) is a big factor. Of the thousands of lobbying groups in America, this rightwing group is the most influential and feared.

AIPAC’s enormous clout—coupled with its willingness to kill the messenger if the message is not perceived as sufficiently pro-Israel—puts the fear of God in America’s media and America’s politicians, whether Democrat or Republican, who wish to be candid and rational regarding Israeli affairs.

The result is that there is much less meaningful debate in the United States regarding anything affecting Israel than there is anywhere else in the developed Western world, including Israel itself.

This and much more is discussed in, “The Bush League of Nations: The Coalition of the Unwilling, the Bullied and the Bribed – the GOP’s War on Iraq and America,” by James A. Swanson (2008, CreateSpace Publishing, 448 pages).

You can download the entire book for free at www.bushleagueofnations.com.

I ask for nothing in return, except that you perhaps use my book to help restore and build America. And, if you are so inclined, please pass along the good word. I’d appreciate that.

9-11 was done by Israeli Mossad Agents in connection with CIA (Disguised as Al Qaeda)
Posted by: skepticgod on Mar 10, 2009 11:07 AM
Current rating: 4    [1 = poor; 5 = excellent]
This article states that the 9-11 inside job done by Israeli agents is "false". This is wrong. Scientists such as David Ray Griffin, and scientists from the 9-11 truth movement have clearly stated and explained to all americans that 9-11 was an inside job.

I know that's a hard truth to accept by many in the Social-Democrat Pettit Bourgeoise Left of America.

But real revolutionary socialists such as Michael Parenti and James Petras accept the ugly fact that 9-11 was done by Israeli secret agents, in connection with Al Qaeda (Al Qaeda was also hired by the US government to perpetrate this mass-murder of 9-11 so that the *blame* would be directed against Al Qaeda and not against any high level official of the neocon administration of the US government.)

I have to say that I believe Israel is literally trying to take over the world using puppet programs like the Bilderberger group etc., there's many extreme literature out there on Zionism becoming akin to Satanism.

Clearly they have been passing on teachings, technology and their "craft" to our police departments using companies like Taser International.

Clearly there is some very brainwashed christain zionists in the USA who support this, just look at all the recent GOP conventions completely making a mockery of themselves for Israel/AIPAC.

Clearly the government, not the Israeli people but whatever military faction this government is is involved up to its eyeballs in spying & crime through-out the US using this illuminazi nonsense as a cover.

I think the Israeli government is trying to destroy us, and I'm not joking with those words. I've seen Mossad German agents running around the US unsupervised.

I think they know alot more about us than we realize and by this time they must know we can see they were behind 9-11, because most of us have moved off normal cell phones.

I sure did after I read that COMVERSE was doing that, it was downright chilling beyond belief to realize that all law enforcement/civilian conversations were being tapped by an Israeli company NSA dragnet.

All other conspiracy theories aside even if they *WEREN'T* behind the attacks, does that not frighten you beyond belief they have this much tactical reach?

What in the world are they doing when a Norman Finkelstein receives death threats instead of being able to speak in public about this!?? Blackmailing the USA?

This was confirmed by two former CIA officers, and they noted that movers' vans are a common intelligence cover. (23). The Israelis were held in custody for 71 days before being quietly released. Basic Physics Proves that The Official Story of 9/11 is Impossible

9/11 was a PsyOp and most of the Worlds Population were shocked into believing something that is physically impossible.

Changing people's beliefs is almost impossible particularly if they have deep seated psychological reasons for maintaining a belief.

You can quote basic physics to the cow comes home - present photographs, demonstrations - and all the evidence you like - but it still will not change their opinion. I almost completely lost interest in 9/11 several years ago.

Anyhow a quick Google search revealed this which I hadn't seen before. In understanding it you will have to take your mind back to the age of 10 or 11 when you learnt basic physics in school.

Well, I dropped out of the two parties 20 years ago starting in 1988 when I voted Paul, Perot in 1992 and 1996, and Nader in 2000, 2004, and 2008. Oh, and I voted twice for Nixon and twice for Reagan and I deeply regret those votes and apologize for being an Archie Bunker young one back in the 1970s and 1980s.

Remember the USS Liberty

Unlike the Alamo and the Maine, our government covered up Israel's deliberate attempt to sink the USS Liberty. Israel has attacked the USA in the military arena and continues to attack the USA in the espionage arena.

Some of the comments blame the Republicans, the Democrats or President Obama for favoring Israel. Ever wonder why more politicians don't speak up about Israel?

Y'all find the answer in John Mearsheimer's book, co-written with that other anti-Semite, Stephen Walt, "The Israeli Lobby and U.S. Foreign Policy". How can the Lobby be so powerful?

The political apathy of the majority of the American citizens allows a relatively small number of voices to be amplified in our government. Do you think Obama would have ever been elected, if he didn't grovel before AIPAC, just as John McCain did?

One of the first orders of business in the 111th Congress was H.Res. 34 and S.Res. 10, supporting Israel's right to defend itself, and H.Res 37 condemning Hamas. Any legislator not supporting the aforementioned resolutions is effectively sounding a knell announcing the end of his/her political career.

Joe Lieberman fores Charles Freeman to quit; again proof that our nation is being strong armed and corrupted by the Jewish lobby to blindly support the state of Israel and her barbaric policies toward the Arabs in general and the Palestinians in particular. Anyone who criticizes Israeli policies is subjected to punishment may they be professors, newspaper editors, politicians, judges, etc. It is imperative for our people including our Jewish liberals to promote public education and peaceful and rational thinking which is good for everyone in the long run.

Israel spies on the US, and tries to block US/Iranian cooperation

With "friends" like Israel, one might ask who needs enemies. Let us keep in mind that the falsification of intelligence, to set up the Iraq War disaster, was put together by US "friends of Israel" and that the neocons' founding father, Norman Podhoretz, saw the program as essentially one of securing the future of Israel. Ironically, this course only injures the US and Israel.

If the US allows Israel to spy on it then it isn't really spying is it?

Israel doesn't spy on the US. The US allows it to discover classified information which it couldn't openly share with Israel for fear of an outcry from within and without. Obviously, this is basically official US policy or it wouldn't be taking place. Get a clue.

Great article.

I just wanted to say that I am no fan of Israel whatsoever, but I'm suspicious of the comments here that essentially say we should drop Israel and get cozy with Hamas. They remind me of the comments made on other sites by pro-Israel zombies in response to the slightest criticism, "maybe we should just give the terrorists nukes to make it even, maybe we should send military aid to alqaeda" ad nauseum.

I long for the day when the US withdraws from this self-destructive "special relationship", but why embrace anyone else? We do not need to go searching for another hypocritical ally to prop up.

Also, comments saying we should pursue an alliance with Hamas by someone named "SuicideBomber" just reek of propaganda. Meaning, if you want to limit Israeli influence in the US, you must be a terrorist-sympathizer.

My God, it's like the Gaza assault all over again.

When i see comments like willymack's, it makes me stop and wonder if it's coming from a chosen one. A very naive person nonetheless. Israel professes to be a big friend of the US, and it just loves the handouts and all the many other perks it gets for being a "trusted" ally. Beware, the worst enemy one can have is the one who smiles, and pretends to be your friend, while their doing the nasty on your own greedy dumb ass!

Let's fund several hundred thousand Hamas veterans terrorists being relocated into our country. let's make sure that we direct the FBI and other security apparatchiks to not touch their paramilitary training camps. let's toss the intel that we get from the Canadians and the Mexicans about the thousands of weapons and jihadists who want to use them that are flowing across our borders out with the bathwater.

Let's make it socially impolite to use the phrase "War on Terror", and let's ritually disembowel our military.

Then we won't have to worry at all about Israelis spying on us, because we will be too busy licking Islamo-fascist boots and praying to Mecca five times a day.

Have you got your 72 hookers in Heaven picked out yet? That's what is coming folks.

Just Another "clean up op" In the Aftermath of 9/11.

When I saw the title of this article I said to myself, "Gee, the cowardly 'left press' (the official opposition) is finally going to deal realistically with the two-faced mass killers who run the Israeli government. Then, before the second paragraph was finished-- BANG: out pops the true purpose of the article. It turns out this was another one of Alternet's "please don't believe in the 9/11 'conspiracy theory' and the role of the Israelis." The Israeli killer-boys must be laughing their asses off.

And there you have it. This article was merely a media "deep cover" op the real purpose of which is to cover the butt of the Israeli government and its hands-on role in carrying out the dirty work of American neocons and their effort to jump start their conquering of the world by creating "a new Pearl Harbor" (The "new Pearl Harbor" didn't quite work, so they decided to crash the global economy instead-- a bit more costly for 'them', but then, what the heck: they can afford it, we can't).

Needless to say, I didn't bother reading the rest of the article since it was clearly tainted by the hand of the hidden government's ongoing (and semi-permanent) operation geared toward covering the tracks of the mass killers of 9/11. So instead of bothering to read the rest of this propaganda piece I jumped write to the comments, just for a little entertainment. I kid you not.

You just can't trust Alternet.

I'll say it again: You just can't trust Alternet (nor for that manner, many of their wannabe writers).

So let's move on. . .

Article blacklisted on Truthdig

Why was this article blacklisted on Truthdig? On attempting to post a link to this story on Israeli spying, the following screen was returned from Truthdig:

Action Denied: Blacklisted Item Found
http://www.alternet.org/audits/1..._states/? page=3

It appears that the story is even too much for the editors over at PropagandaDig, because the same message was returned upon attempting to email them a query about why the story was blacklisted.

Robert Scheer is on the masthead at Truthdig. He likes to rail against blacklisting, or perhaps only when those of a certain religion or political bent are blacklisted. He is the chief editor over there. He either knows and is complicit in this blacklisting process, or he should know about it but for some reason doesn't know what is going on in his organization.

Good idea. Some pieces just fell into place reading this. When 9/11 occurred, I remember hearing a comment that all the Jewish people had been told to stay home from work that day. I wondered why and how. As a political friend, Israel is not healthy for America. In fact, how can a political entity ever be a friend? Wrong for America to try to get we people to swallow "friendship" with Israel. Using our tax dollars to fund their jihads on every nation around them.

From the comments preceding this, it seems that slowly but surely, Americans are finally waking up to what Zionism and Israel actually are AND that they (Americans) can nothing about it! Why? They should ask their politicians and their non-Zionist, non-Israeli and non-neocon'regulators', that is, if any such could still be found at Wall Street, Federal Reserve, Treasury, Pentagon, CIA, Foggy Bottom, M$M, Hollywood etc etc etc, the list is long! Just like the aliens in sci-fi movies, they are 'everwhere', AND, not only in the US. They are in Iraq, in North Lebanon, in what little remains of the West Bank with Palestinians on it, in Egypt, in Darfur and South Sudan, in Ethiopia, in Djibouti, in Chad, in Mauritania, in Morocco and the rest of the Arab and Islamic Worlds. Their Jahveh has promised them World Domination & named them as his Chosen Race. In all the countries I have named there are conflicts, bloody conflicts and they are all breaking up into small useless and harmless mini-states which is what the Zionists want them to be, states the Zionists can then 'handle', given their small numbers. Otherwise they can always 'convince and goad' America to 'occupy' this and that state by demonizing the latter and 'proving' them as 'threats' to Israel. They will meet the same fate as the sci-fi aliens always do. Is it a coincidence that most of such sci-fi movies are written, directed and produced by Zionists? With the sad ends for the sci-fi aliens, are they trying to say something? Or remembering something from their PAST? Like Nebuchadnasser, the Pharoah and the Romans? May be!

This appears to be all a part of a very real, strange and unusual Zionist conspiracy!

READ HERE
http://www.redicecreations.com

"The word 'liberty' brings society into conflict with all the powers, even with that of Nature and of God. That is why when we come into power, we must strike the word 'liberty' from our human dictionary, as being the symbol of bestial power, which turns the populace into blood-thirsty animals."
"Thus the government of the Gentiles, which we taught to look only on the showy side of affairs, as we present these to them, will even look upon us as benefactors and saviors of humanity."

This is serious stuff, definitely real it looks like!

The strange plans the Zionists have for everybody are not some fiction, they are really going on and no it isn't a Jewish conspiracy its a total Zionist conspiracy designed to use Jews & Gentiles and even discredit them!

These followers of Shabatazi Tsvi appear to be real people who have a warped backwards view of the land of Israel, want to crown King Rothschild and rule as a Globalist government!

It must be talked about in public circles that clearly certain spies in the NSA and elsewhere, are from Israel, and are very likely a part of the Sabbatean Zionist movement.

It all is pretty ominous and certainly threw me for a loop, because the one enemy I have trouble fighting against is one from the line of David or Daniel in other words apostate Donmeh Jews.

Isrel's government appears to be these people. How can they do this and say things like that about entire groups of people?

Shabatai Tsvi appears to be alive and well in the Military Industrial Complex.

Everyone should study this and remember they are no longer Jews, these Zionists now worship something very dark.
