Did a Criminal Mastermind Stage the Mumbai Nightmare?

By Yoichi Shimatsu, New America Media. Posted November 28, 2008.

The Mumbai attacks carry the signature of Ibrahim Dawood, a Indian living in Pakistan and former crime boss turned self-styled avenger.

Don't miss Sandip Roy's article at the bottom of this report, arguing that the gun-toting, Versacet-shirt-wearing assailant whose image was beamed across the world at the start of the terrorist attacks in Mumbai who could as easily have been one of the victims as one of the terrorists.

The coordinated nighttime assault against seven major targets in Mumbai is reminiscent of the 1993 bombings that devastated the Bombay Stock Exchange. The recent attack bears the fingerprints of the same criminal mastermind – meticulous preparation, ruthless execution and the absence of claims or demands.

The eerie silence that accompanied the blasts are the very signature of Ibrahim Dawood, now a multi-millionaire owner of a construction company in Karachi, Pakistan. His is hardly a household name around the world like Osama bin Laden. Across South Asia, however, Dawood is held in awe and, in a twist on morals, admired for his belated conversion from crime boss to self-styled avenger.

His rise to the highest rungs of India's underworld began from the most unlikely position as the diligent son of a police constable in the populous commercial capital then known as Bombay.

His childhood familiarity with police routine and inner workings of the justice system gave the ambitious teenager an unmatched ability to outwit the authorities with evermore clever criminal designs. Among the unschooled ranks of Bombay gangland, Ibrahim emerged as the coherent leader of a multi-religious mafia, not just due to his ability to organize extortion campaigns and meet payrolls, but also because of his merciless extermination of rivals.

Dawood, always the professional problem-solver, gained the friendship of aspiring officers in India's intelligence service known as Research and Analysis Wing (RAW). He soon attracted the attention of American secret agents, then supporting the Islamic mujahideen in their battle against the Soviet occupiers of Afghanistan. Dawood personally assisted many a U.S. deep-cover operation funneling money to Afghan rebels via American-operated casinos in Kathmandu, Nepal.

Eager to please all comers, Dawood occasionally got his wires crossed, providing travel documents and other amenities to Islamist airplane hijackers. In response, Washington spymasters tried to unofficially "impound" his investment in the Nepalese casinos. Dawood's fury is legendary among locals. An honorable businessman, he held to the strict belief that a deal is a deal and there can be no reneging for any reason.

As Bombay moved into the league of Asia's premier cities – hotel rates and apartment rentals are the highest in the region – Dawood could have led a comfortable life as top dog. Instead he suffered a spasm of conscience, a newfound moral outrage, when rightwing Hindu nationalists destroyed a mosque in northern India in 1992, slaying 2000 Muslim worshippers, mostly women and children.

One a day in the following May, his henchmen set off bombs across Bombay, killing more than 300 people. His personal convictions had – uncharacteristically - overcome his dispassionate business ethics. Reeling in shock, his top lieutenant, a Hindu, attempted to assassinate Dawood. A bloody intra-gang war followed, but as always Dawood triumphed, even while away in exile in Dubai and Karachi.

In the ensuing decade, at the height of violence in Kashmir, Dawood sent his heavily armed young trainees by boat from Karachi on covert landings onto Indian beaches. This same method was used in the Mumbai assault with more boats, seven craft according to initial navy reports.

Why the timing of this raid, on the dawn of Thanksgiving in America? The leader of India's opposition and former deputy Prime Minister L. K. Advani had long sought Dawood's extradition from Pakistan, a move opposed by the then military government in Islamabad. With the restoration of civilian rule, the new Pakistani prime minister (Gillani) consented to New Delhi's deportation request.

Washington and London both agreed with the India's legal claim and removed the longstanding "official protection" accorded for his past services to Western intelligence agencies. U.S. diplomats, however, could never allow Dawood's return. He simply knows too much about America's darker secrets in South Asia and the Gulf, disclosure of which could scuttle U.S.-India relations. Dawood was whisked away in late June to a safe house in Quetta, near the tribal area of Waziristan, and then he disappeared, probably back to the Middle East.

Suddenly from out of nowhere, a previously unknown group (Deccan Mujahadeen) carries out a highly effective and well coordinated assault on one of the global economy's nerve centers. The group prepares no statement of intent nor makes any demands. The media labels it "India's 9/11" and emphasize the attacks toll on Western and Jewish victims. Before the shooting stops the Indian government and U.S. intelligence services point the finger at Pakistan based Lashkar-e-Taiba.

Who's interests were ultimately served by America's 9/11? The US troops in Iraq and soon to be surged into Afghanistan are the answer to that question. Who's interests would be served by a war, even if it included a nuclear exchange, between India and Pakistan? The dire state of the US economy and US imperialism's flagging fortunes in the region should be considered.

This sounds like something The Taliban or El Quidah the other Black Ops people were trained to do...

They came from nowhere and they attacked JEWS,Hindus,Americans, Brits, Canadians and Muslims alike....

This was done to take down the Indian financial center and religion had nothing to do with it.
Hitler blamed the Jews now his New World Order surrogates are blaming the Muslims.
You have to wonder who REALLY is behind this

This article is riddled with falsities.

1)The mosque that was destroyed by the Hindu activists was sealed for more than a decade on the orders of the Supreme Court. Nobody was allowed to worship there.

2)Muslim women are not allowed to offer prayers alongside men in mosques. Even if the mosque was not sealed and the offering of prayers forbidden, there would still be no women in the mosque.

3)The carnage that resulted from the destruction of the mosque led to the murder of Muslims AND Hindus. However, mainstream media, biased as it is against Hindus, projected this as a genocide of Muslims. Everyone in India knows that this isn't true.

Mr. Sandeep Roy, editor at NAM, listen up!

It is very convenient for people like you living in a relatively safe country like USA to talk crap about the country that gave birth to you, gave you an identity, and a passport (for you to apply for a green card) after reading a crappy novel written primarily for westerners.

I lived in the USA for three years in the south side of Chicago. Have you ever been there Mr. Roy, have you ever lived there? I have, and I can dole out a million volumes of crap like the White Tiger except that the Tiger in my books will be Black or Hispanic. The narrative will be the same - the observations of an idiot who wasn't born there to know the nuances of real life in the foreign land.

Wealth, by definition creates two categories of people - one with it, and one without. This has been true for ages. That doesn't justify the action of these terrorists.

Mr. Roy of the NAM. Listen up. If you or your family was ever killed by a bunch of savage madmen shooting recklessly with automatic rifles and hurling grenades at your kid. You wouldn't listen to the 'Boom'. That 'boom' would ruin your life forever. That 'boom' would make you want to rip that bastard in the Versace t-shirt apart with your bare hands.

This is a country in pain Mr. Roy. I know you don't live here anymore. The least you can do is to not talk crap about the land that gave you your identity.

Shame on you. Don't you have any decency?

At the end of your screwed-up article, you imply that the Versace guy was some local guy who wanted the Indian government by the balls to convey a message of societal disorder within the country. What a load of crap!

These are terrorists - is that so difficult to understand? These were trained mercenaries sent by our lovely neighbor to wreak havoc.

Before attacking the Taj and the Oberoi Hotels, they drove around Mumbai spraying bullets on just about anyone - including passengers at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Railway Terminus. You know what kind of people buy tickets at CST? The same poor folks that can't afford to hail a cab - daily wage labourers, slum dwellers, you know, the poor and the downtrodden type. So, were these terrorists trying to convey the message that a vast income gap exists across spectrum of Indian Society?

Far from it, they just killed anyone and everyone they laid their sights on. So, listen up stupid man living in the USA, you have no clue about what happened here. So, shut up, and let us mourn.

I personally believe that 9/11 was an inside job. I am a structural engineer and I don't know of any building that ever collapsed due to a fire. Heck, the Taj Mahal Hotel is more than a century old and it witstood mortar shelling and fires for more than 48 hours. the WTC was rigged with explosives and was demolished in a controlled operation. There, I have said it out loud. How does that make you feel? Angry? Well, now you know what my country is going through. How shit-headed must you be to have written that article that you wrote?

Once again, don't you have any decency left in you?

News Update:

The guy in the Versace T-shirt was caught by Indian forces. He apparently plead for mercy and 'wants to live'. He also said that 'He was instructed to kill until the last breath'.

This is the guy who killed scores of poor people at the railway station.

So is this your 'victim' Mr. Roy of the NAM? Do you still think that this guy wanted to convey a message? He killed scores of innocent, poor, hard-working civilians in a railway station.

Shame on you, Mr. Roy. Shame on you.

I love Sandip Roy; he is Bengali and I think Hindu and I am Baluch and I think Buddhist.

We are also liberal and gay.

But here Sandip's writing shows as if the terrorists were homegrown in India, which is totally wrong.

These enemies of humanity were members of what is called the Army of the Pure, or Lashkar-I-Toiba, and came from the Land of the Pure, or Pakistan. Please see my article:

http://www.indymedia.org.uk/en/2008/11/413784.html

The Lashkar-i-Toiba is handled by the dreaded Inter Services Intelligence. The agency had slit the tongue of Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari some years ago and is extremely displeased with his peace overtures towards India. Zardari has condemned the Kashmiri Mujahideen. On November 25--just a day before the terrorists boarded a ship in Karachi-- Zardari told Indians in an interview on satellite television about the Indian roots of all Pakistanis, angering the Pakistani spymasters.

Now is the time to end the I.S.I. crimes against humanity. Pakistan army and I.S.I. are conducting an aggressive war and genocide against my Baluch people in Baluchistan. Among the resistance leaders, one very prominent leader Nawabzada Bala'ach Marri, also called Baloch Che Guevra, was killed by Pakistan army in November 2007 and his younger brother Hairbiyar Marri might be convicted to 10 years in prison in the United Kingdom in his efforts to defend his people.

My appeal to every sane person on earth--unite to have the I.S.I. disbanded and Pakistan balkanized.

Dear IndianCitizen:

I was reading your comments with interest until you called yourself a structural engineer and claimed that 9/11 was an inside job. Then you compared the attack on the hotel with the collapse of the WTC and stated that the WTC was rigged with explosives. First, there is no comparison. Second, when was the WTC "rigged with explosives"? In order to demolish a building in such a controlled manner, the explosives would have to be placed in precise locations that are only accessible during construction, or placed later in a process that involves massive tearing out of walls. There is no way such a placement of explosives could have been accomplished in secret. The wiring to control the sequence of explosions is vast and complex, and when a building is "rigged" for such demolition, the wires are strung all over the place. It takes months of preparation and simply can not be hidden. You are no structural engineer, sir. I have worked on the demolition of buildings. You obviously have not. The WTC collapsed because the floor supports were not designed to hold the weight of the rubble and mass of the plane that were imposed on them. Once one floor fell onto a floor below, the whole structure was doomed to collapse in a sequence, as we all tragically saw.

If you recant your absurd "inside job" nonsense, and provide documentation about the Mosque killings, you would be doing us all a service. Many people hold the "Muslim massacre" idea as factual, including Deepak Chopra in his recent interview with Larry King. If that is not true, as you say "everybody in India knows", please give us specific facts. That would help in developing useful understandings toward resolving the absurd religious war we are suffering from.

Did you notice that the news networks covered only the Jews and Westerners on the attack while everyone else's lives were rendered irrelevant? If all those Americans and Jews were just regular Indians, the Mumbai attack on the hotels would have made no news whatsoever. As a matter of fact, on July 11, 2006, the terrorist attack on a Mumbai subway was similar to the one in Spain in 2004 and yet the media coolly ignored the Mumbai one unlike the Spain one. I find it also truly amazing the like the rightwing, the leftwing has the nerve to come up with double standards in religion. If Hindus, Buddhists, Sikhs, etc ... had actually done the terrorizing against the Muslims, this board and the rest of the liberal blogosphere would be showing their outrage at the lives whereas in this case, the leftwing would much rather say that Indians (except for the Muslim ones) are bad people despite the fact that they are the people we rely on for business and use them as slaves. And I noticed on conservative blogs that it is no different from the rightwing. If Christians and/or Jews are attacked, show outrage and go after them whereas if the Hindus, Buddhists, Sikhs, etc ... are the victims, then give them the middle finger. I am disheartened to find such religious animosity even on the left. I'd expect the rightwing to be hostile but not the leftwing. Oh well, I guess those ordinary Indian civilians who were the most to lose their lives don't matter to you rightwingers and leftwingers out there, do they?

Appears to be an Attempt To Provoke War Between India and Pakistan

Such a war would be totally devastating for both countries. I have not actually seen any of this latest news (I've been at a funeral and also ill) - but when I heard of it I immediately thought those responsible would probably be in some way connected to 9/11 7/7 Madrid and other Terrorist outrages.

I find it extremely suspicious that there have already been explicit warnings from the likes of Biden re a major event that would test Obama. I am well aware of his history. Did he know of events in the pipeline?

I do have a real interest as am travelling to India soon with my family and don't relish the prospect of being caught up in a nuclear war.

Hopefully both India & Pakistan Governments will have a good understanding of the threats posed by external forces to both their countries.

Red Alert is a powerful analysis of what may be the desired outcome of those responsible. The important thing is not to play into the hands of the Terrorists - but to arrest them - and determine who exactly is responsible - and put them on trial for their crimes.

We are still going to India - providing that a full nuclear war hasn't started. We will not have our plans changed by Terrorists who are the Scum of The Earth.

Love & Peace,

Tony

I am English - and us English have a history of travelling round the world and conquering and exploiting the planet - sometimes we weren't very nice at all.

But then after WWII - we gave it up - well more or less - and were somewhat forced into giving up our Empire by America - war debt and everything....

And then America tried to do it

I have read John Perkins

And America has now gone bust and is in its Death Throws

Meanwhile us English just carried on as we always had - travelling round the World

Its NORMAL for even 12 year old English kids to travel to such strange places as the USA - my lad did - he thought you were all incredibly FAT and obsessed with shooting things

But English Kids also travel to more Peaceful parts of the World like South America and Africa and India - just as a part of growing up

Its just what we do

Not as Conquerers

But as Tourists

Whilst America Kids Join The Army

And Do It Behind The Barrel of a Gun

And The ENTIRE WORLD Hates America

They Don't Hate Us English

In fact they seem to rather like us

And As Us English sort of think of America as Our Unruly Teenage Child

We Feel Rather Embarrassed.

But we will not be intimidated by Your Fucking Terrorists

My Son has spent the last 20 hours travelling from England with 7 Friends.

They should be arriving soon.

Most of his friends work in McDonalds to pay for their travel and University Education

None of them have joined the army.

"a Indian" >>>> "an Indian" -- Who's editing these articles?

I hope that this will be treated as a "mass murder" -- as the horrible crime that it is -- and not as another excuse to invade and occupy another country or the country of whoever is SUSPECTED of having perpetrated the crime. We still do not even have proof that Bin Ladin or Al Qaeda pulled off the 9-11 crime. I won't get into conspiracy theories, but Benazir Buto (on a Charlie Rose interview on PBS a couple of years ago) said that Bin Ladin had died -- that there had been a funeral for him. So we need to remember not to believe the first things that we are told by our government or our "news" media.

Muslim Terrorists kill over 151 innocents and Jews, Brits and yanks still seen here as the bad guys!

So it is quite tempting to ask "what is wrong with this picture." I say stop the conspiracy mongering and finger pointing and take responsibility for your own brutality. You ask nothing less of Israel, the UK and America; those who many of you deem to be an "axis of evil." These terrorists are said to have intended to kill over 5,000 innocent people according to security experts.

The British government has non-conclusive, thought strong evidence that many of the attackers were British born Pakistanis. I bet they're right. These latest attacks in Mumbai were the eighth this year alone. The entire world, including the UN Secretary General, the Vatican and the Chinese Government (not sources one usually considers susceptible to "Jewish" influence), has condemned the brutal attacks on no uncertain terms and have demanded a swift and vigorous response.

I don't mean to disrespect or stigmatize decent folks, but if the so called "religion of peace" wants to be respected and regarded as the same as others it must cease its mindless and cruel brutality all over the world. Stop the terrorism, the 5000 annual "honor killings" of your own woment, the dictatorial oppression of your own people and the fanatical teaching of hatred to your young. This is my challenge to the Muslim world. Own what you do, take responsibility and stop pointing the finger at others for the chaos that you so cruelly and deliberately create. It simply isn't working and you will only be harmed by it in the end!!

In 2007, over 2,300 people in India died at the hands of Muslim extremists and the killing continues. While Pakistan and its ISI are probably not behind this rash of terrorism it is very probable that elements of Pakistan's government and ISI are involved acting soley as individuals. Indian Muslims, a less than 2% minority of about 150,000, are extremely bitter. The problem doesn't begin and end with the Kashmir region. India is one of the most stable and prosperous countries in the world while Pakistan languishes in poverty and chaos despite the billions in US/UK assistance over the years.

India is quite peaceful but Pakistan is not. They committed a bitter genocide in Bangladesh whereby up to 3 million people were massacred by Pakistani troops in 1971. A genocide by another Muslim state has been taking place in Darfur with over half a million killed since 2003.

Much of what is occuring points to the utter failure of the so called war on terror in which the US abandoned its mission in Afghanistan allowing the Taliban to resume power. US failures also destabilized Pakistan giving rise to Islamic militant forces in the border regions of that country, notably the NWFP, which have doubtless led to the current situation. The worst of it all is that US policies have squandered the US moral position it once enjoyed with world opinion with regard to terrorism.

Still, the attacks in India are mindless cruelty and will undermine Islam as a force in the world. I believe that those in the Islamic world with any moral authority should intervene and stop the terrorism.

The International Criminal Court Tries PERSONS Accused of CRIMES Against Humanity And WAR CRIMES
Posted by: opmoc on Nov 29, 2008 7:41 PM
Current rating: Not yet rated    [1 = poor; 5 = excellent]
The International Criminal Court (ICC) is an independent, permanent court that tries persons accused of the most serious crimes of international concern, namely genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes. The ICC is based on a treaty, joined by 108 countries.

The ICC is a court of last resort. It will not act if a case is investigated or prosecuted by a national judicial system unless the national proceedings are not genuine, for example if formal proceedings were undertaken solely to shield a person from criminal responsibility. Assigning blame

Since 1993, all the terrorism, violence and drugs in India have been blamed on D-Company. In fact, Dawood may (or may not) be a very bad man. But Dawood has never been tried in an impartial court of law or even had many of these accusations become criminal charges. Drugs to the UK and Western Europe? We are just talking about hashish!

A reference which was not included is The Most Dangerous Man in the World by Gilbert King.

Governments make us live in fear by creating bogeymen. It's not good business to actually find them!

Sahir Ledianvi comes to mind

I have been to India once, as a child. My father, a secular Sikh is from New Delhi. After the anti-Sikh riots that followed the assassination of Indian PM Indira Gandhi, my father's family moved to Canada.

Even after the riots, my father never spoke harshly about Hindus; he would read me poems by Indian poets like Sahir Ludianvi and Faiz Ahmed Faiz who captured the essence of the problems faced by India-Pakistan.

Here is a translation of Sahir's nazm "Parchaiyaan":

The Shadows (Parchaiyaan)

Since long has the polemic of politics decreed
That the child that flowers into youth is ripe for slaughter
Since long have the rulers decreed
That poisonous weeds be sown in far- off lands

Since long are the dreams of youth vacuous
Since long love seeks refuge
Since long, on the trampled roads
Life, like a maiden’s honor, seeks a sheltering roof

Let us call upon all suffering souls
To give voice to their wounds
Our secrets are not only ours
They belong to the entire world
Let this entire world, henceforth, be our confidant

Let us tell these political gamblers
That we hate their ways of war and destruction
Life that is draped in hues of only the colour of blood
Is repugnant to us

Let us declare that if a murderer comes this way
Each road shall turn narrower
Each waft of breeze shall turn around viciously
Each delicate branch of every tree
Shall harden into veins of stone

Arise and tell the war mongers
What we need are tools to work
It is not other’s lands that we crave
We need ploughs to farm our own land

Declare that no usurper
Shall turn his eyes towards us
No maiden’s honour shall be sold again
The vast lands have arisen
The crops are shoulder high
No strip of land now shall be sold

This is the land of Gautam and Nanak
No spoilers shall stride on these sacred lands
Our blood belongs to the generations to come
Swords shall not sprout from our blood

Declare that if even today we remain silent
This throbbing world shall cease to be
A world engulfed in atomic furies
Shall not last,
Nor shall the skies be

During the previous wars
only the homes and hearths were razed
But this time it will not be surprising if even our solitudes remain no more
During the previous wars
It was only bodies that were lost
But this time, it will not be surprising
If even the shadows are forever gone

The mind begins to conjure shadows of imaginations

India Nails British Dope, Inc. Hand Behind Mumbai Attack
Increase Decrease

November 29, 2008 (LPAC)--Early today, the Indian Express published a headline article, "Dawood Gave Logistical Support to Mumbai Attackers,'' identifying a leading figure in South Asian Dope, Inc. smuggling operations, Dawood Ibrahim, as a key logistical figure behind the asymmetric warfare attack on the Indian city of Mumbai over the past days.

Although currently based in Karachi, Pakistan and Dubai, Dawood Ibrahim for years was the central mafia figure in Mumbai, and in the Indian Bihar region, bordering with Nepal, smuggling gold in and out of India, and establishing links with South Asia's major opium smuggling networks. In 1999, and again in 2001, Dawood Ibrahim was linked to major terrorist incidents, including the hijacking of an Air India commercial flight, rerouted to Taliban-controlled Kandahar, Afghanistan (1999), and the assault on the Indian parliament in New Delhi (2001). Since 2003, Dawood Ibrahim has been on the U.S. State Department's list of international terrorists, for his links to Al Qaeda and to the Indian and Pakistan-based Lashkar e-Taiba (LeT). He has been identified as an asset of MI6-linked elements of Pakistan's ISI.

Dawood Ibrahim's gold smuggling operations in Dubai are part of Britain's offshore money laundering apparatus, which has existed since the time of the British East India Company's original opium war against India and China, during the 19th century. U.S. intelligence sources have recently emphasized that the British offshore operations in the Caribbean and in the British Isle of Man, have been extended to Dubai, to facilitate the destabilization of Southwest and South Asia.

Indian intelligence sources, after interrogating several of the Mumbai attackers, concluded that the attacks could not have been carried out without significant "inside'' help. The still-powerful elements of the Dawood Ibrahim apparatus, which maintain a dominant position in the Mumbai underworld, and launder massive amount of illegal gold through India's "Bollywood'' motion picture industry, have been now confirmed to have been key to the attacks.

EIR Identified the British Hand

The role of Dawood Ibrahim's Dope, Inc. apparatus, and his links to another British-sponsored key terrorist figure, Ahmed Omar Sheikh, have been highlighted by Executive Intelligence Review for nearly a decade. On Jan. 11, 2001, the editors of EIR submitted a memorandum to then-Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, requesting that the State Department begin a formal investigation to determine whether Great Britain should be placed on the list of State Sponsors of Terrorism.

That EIR memorandum, based exclusively on U.S. and foreign government documents, citing British sponsorship of international terrorist organizations, began by noting that the issue of British support for international terrorist organizations "has been recently highlighted, as the result of the December 1999 Indian Airlines hijacking, and the response of the British government to the request of one of the freed Kashmiri terrorists, Ahmed Omar Sheikh, to be given safe passage to England. Mr. Sheikh, a British national, was tried and convicted in India, for his role in the kidnapping of four British nationals and an American in 1995. He was sentenced to five years in prison in November 1998. Initially, the British government announced that it would provide Mr. Sheikh with safe passage to Britain, and would not prosecute him or make any effort to extradite him back to India.''

Although international pressure prevented Great Britain from following through on its offer to safehouse Ahmed Omar Sheikh, the Forest School and London School of Economics student was, according to Indian and U.S. intelligence sources, recruited by MI6, and deployed to Bosnia before his surfacing

Zeroing in on Pakistan

The latest mellow drama of Mumbai massacre ends with a note that it is an act of some exceptionally highly trained and skilled professionals that only and only Pakistan can produce; the exterminators, who could show such a proficient command, zeal and courage in their execution of task especially the show of their endurance and ability to put up a fight for a cause that they believe till their last--- to a last bullet and last breath...Is this just some sinister back handed compliment or a trap being set once again to blame Pakistan for another 9/11?

Matter of the fact is that Mumbai Terrorist attack is the colossal failure on the part of Indian Intelligence agencies RAW and her security institutions. There are some 100 dissident, separatist groups actively working against the oppressing practices of Indian Central government. India must look inward to put her house in order and not outside.

The most recent intel conclusions point to Lashkar e Taiba. The sole gunman captured confessed to it

Indian officials claim that the patterns of the attack are consistant with the modus operandi of Lashkar and Jaish e Mohammed which also is fighting India over the disputed Kashmir region. Lashkar e Taiba, a creation of the Pakistani ISI, was officially banned on Pakistani soil in 2002 under US pressure. Lashkar militants still train unofficially in the NWFR under the guidance of ISI members. It is impossible for the central government of Pakistan to control this area since it is embedded in the struggle over Afghanistan and is the center of numerous militia training camps. I don't blame Pakistan's government or its president Asif Zardari but I don't believe he has control over the situation. This is a common problem.

I recently went on the NPR website to check out their coverage and in their blog comments some self described Muslims are blaming Israel. Pretty outrageous considering Israel's close relations with India and their extensive economic ties. The accusation is sick, insulting to the victims and is the usual senseless crap to which we've become accustomed to from the usual crowd.

Denial is one helluva thing.
