War on Iraq

Not covering Bush lies

Posted by lakshmi on July 17, 2003 @ 12:42PM

In an excellent column in the Boston Globe, Robert Kuttner takes the mainstream press to task for their coverage of White House lies. He writes, "The back story of the politicization of intelligence has been hidden in plain view for months." Yet the media did not report on the WMD claims until recently. And even now, as Kuttner points out, the real reporting is being done by the columnists not the reporters: "(I)n the Bush era, much of the reporting and analysis that should be Page 1 news are treated as if they were mere opinion."
