WATCH: Jon Stewart on Christie's Likely Downfall—'You Can See Paul Ryan's Boner from Space'

Comedian says NJ gov is a disgrace to a state 'renowned for its corruption.'

Jon Stewart took solid aim at the the unfolding scandal roiling Chris Christie's administration, after yesterday's revelation that a top Christie aide sent emails directing the Port Authority to intentionally cause traffic problems on the George Washington Bridge.

Lanes were closed for several days snarling traffic, it appears to punish the mayor of Fort Lee for not endorsing Christie's re-election. Stewart, like just about every other observer, is stunned about the pettiness of this retaliation, seeing that Christie had a 24-point lead in the race, and given the portly governor's much-vaunted concern about the people of New Jersey above all.

Stewart, who is from New Jersey, noted that about the only person the lane closures did not inconvenience is the Mayor of Fort Lee himself, because unlike everyone else, he is not trying to leave Fort Lee. He's stuck there.

Designating himself as the Daily Show's New Jersey correspondent, Stewart lamented that this corruption scandal is a disgrace to a state known for its corruption scandals, like, for instance, Abscam, and another involving crooked pols, rabbis, and selling kidneys.  "This is New Jersey, the state known for its first-rate, piss-rich corruption." So rich that not one, but two HBO series about mobsters and corrupt people, "The Sopranos" and "Boardwalk Empire" are set in New Jersey.

He was also taken aback by the artlessness of the Christie staffer's e-mail, which read: "Time for some traffic problems in Fort Lee." No self-respecting corrupt official would use such direct language, Stewart opined. They'd say, "Our friend Lee . . . he's constipated."

It all looks bad for Christie, who has been considered the frontrunner for the Republican presidential nod, hence the comment about Paul Ryan's boner:
