On his HBO show Sunday night, Daily Show alum John Oliver illustrated the stupidity of the media-style "debate" about climate change. After the landmark White House report on climate change was released last week, the deniers carried on as they always do, and the news media played right along. "A Gallup poll showed that 1 in 4 Americans is skeptical about all the effects of climate change," said one talking head."
"Who gives a shit?" Oliver commented. "You don't need people's opinion on a fact. You might as well ask people, 'Which is bigger, 5 or 15?' or 'Do owls exist?' or 'Are there hats?'"
The other absurdity the news media engages in, which could account for people being wrong about the issue, is continually hosting so-called balanced debates on the question—which there is none—of the reality climate change. One against one. Usually, Bill Nye, the science educator guy, against some idiot denier.
50-50 is not an accurate mathematical depiction of how the reality of climate change should be debated (and it shouldn't be, Oliver again points out.)
Oliver then schooled the media on how stage a representive debate, bringing out Bill Nye and a denier dude, then 96 other scientists and two more denier dudes.
Things quickly got out of hand.
