Sarah Palin's Shocking Animal Cruelty

If Sarah Palin ran the United States like she has run Alaska, it would indeed be a terrible day for animals.

GOP conventioneers were officially introduced to their vice presidential candidate who is, as Fred Thompson said, "the only nominee in the history of either party who knows how to properly field dress a moose."


But it's not Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's personal love of hunting or appetite for moose venison that should strike fear in the heart of every animal advocate in the nation--it's her retrograde policies on animal welfare and conservation that have led to an all-out war on the state's wolves and other creatures.



Her record is so extreme that she has perhaps done more harm to animals than any other current governor in the United States -- and that's a difficult distinction to achieve among our 22 Republican and 28 Democratic chief executives. Voters of both political parties who care about the humane treatment of animals must unite to make sure that the nation's worst governor doesn't end up just a heartbeat away from the nation's most important job.



Palin is not only a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association, but is also a close ally of Safari Club International. These radical groups don't represent rank-and-file hunters, but instead lobby on behalf of their elitist, wealthy members to defend despicable and unsporting practices such as captive trophy hunts, bear baiting, and steel-jawed legold traps -- practices that real hunters agree are inhumane and unacceptable.



And the Palin Administration, in lock-step with these extreme anti-conservationists, has waged an all-out war on Alaska's predators to artificially boost the populations of moose and caribou for trophy hunters. Palin has tried to pass legislation making it easier for state officials to gun down wolves and bears from the sky, and even offered a $150 bounty for the left foreleg of each dead wolf as an economic incentive for pilots and aerial gunners to kill more of the animals.



Leading up to the recent statewide vote on Measure 2 to stop the aerial shooting of wolves and bears, Palin's Board of Game spent $400,000 of public money on brochures and radio ads to influence the election. She not only took an inhumane and unsporting position at odds with the principles of wildlife management and fair chase, but did it in an undemocratic and underhanded way. Palin may have criticized "the old politics as usual" and "the culture of self-dealing" in her speech last night, but that's a pretty good description of her dealings with the NRA and Safari Club.


Since Alaska is not protecting its wolves from aerial hunting, the U.S. Congress has stepped in and is now considering the Protect America's Wildlife (PAW) Act, which would close a loophole in federal law that allows the shooting of animals from airplanes and helicopters. But Gov. Palin has attacked that effort, too, and used her office to criticize the federal legislation. She wrote in a press release that the bill's author "doesn't understand rural Alaska" and "doesn't comprehend wildlife management in the North."



This new video from our friends at the Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund reveals shocking images from the brutal practice of aerial hunting, and shows the world just what Gov. Palin has championed at the state and federal levels.

But that's only one part of the story. It's not just wolves, of course, who have been the targets of Palin's outdated policies, but also the Arctic region's iconic polar bears, the 21st Century's canaries in the mineshaft who are teetering on the brink of extinction.



Despite the effects of climate change on the bear's vanishing habitat and shrinking ice floes, Gov. Palin penned an op-ed in The New York Times earlier this year arguing that it was the "wrong move" to list the polar bear under the Endangered Species Act. Later, when the Bush Administration announced its listing of the polar bear as a threatened species, she filed a lawsuit seeking to reverse the decision. Environmentalists fired back over Palin's lawsuit and said "her head-in-the-sand approach to global warming only helps oil companies, certainly not Alaska or the polar bear."



For those who don't believe that the number two spot on the ticket matters much at all, consider this: fourteen vice presidents in American history eventually climbed to the top job, eight of them because their predecessors died in office. If Sarah Palin were to be propelled into the presidency and given the opportunity to run the United States like she has run Alaska--controlling the Departments of Interior, Agriculture, and Commerce, with wide-ranging authority over issues affecting pets, wildlife, farm animals, marine mammals, animals in research, and public lands--it would indeed be a terrible day for animals and for the country.

Remember that movie from 1983? This butch was 20 years-old when it came out. She had to have seen it. Great movie. This Michael Vick of the environment must be told "thanks, but nooooo thanks. Look on the bright side, folks, as long as she's kept busy campaigning, she should be too busy to procreate. We can only hope....

We live in a culture that breeds ignorance and insensitivity to life.

We do not know what life is but we feel free to destroy it for pleasure, exploit other creatures unconsciously with no thought or appreciation to the sacrifice of another life for our sustenance. To hunt to eat as a necessity done with respect is one thing, to do so for the thrill of the kill is cowardly and immoral.

And, of course, it's the same callous insensitivity that allows us to sacrifice human life so mindlessly for our economic and political ambitions. Damn the innocent that get in the way, "collateral" is our weak attempt to describe the inexcusable wasting of what we pretend to value above all else.

Sarah Palin is simply incapable of valuing something that she doesn't understand. It doesn't make her or anyone like her a leader, quite contrarily, she's ignorant of even the native Inuit Alaskan value of and spiritual regard for their needed prey as well as their competitive predators.

Sarah Palin is a perfectly common example of the vacuous nature of a spiritually dead culture.

quite frankly, if McCain/Palin is elected, the loss of animal life is the least of the things we should be worried about.

My Step-Father at 76 still goes out before hunting season starts to set up his tree stand. Then when the season begins he gets up before dawn, donns all his attire & gear and drives an Hour to his hunting spot. THEN HE SITS- often freezing his ass off, but he WAITS. After several Hours he returns home- usually empty handed- BUT HAPPY!
He went on a antelope hunt outwest and nearly got killed by a Moose Cow protecting her calf, it's one of his favorite stories to tell- of the many he has accumulated over nearly 3/4 of a century of hunting.
When he does get Deer He field dresses it and butchers it himself ( sometimes I'm around to help).Then he DISPENSES the Venison throughout the family. If it has a good rack he gets it mounted and gives that to someone in the family.
Until several years ago he was an avid Rifle hunter, But After a shoulder injury he was granted a Crossbow license. Now he preferrs this over rifle- a bigger challenge, requiring far more accuracy.
I have always been an animal advocate- never really a fan of hunting.But the more I have read about these psuedo Hunter the more I admire and understand the Workings of a REAL HUNTER- It is NOT the Kill, It is the Hunt!
My Step father is also has about 10 bird feeders - of various mixes Out in his backyard- a feeder for each kind of birds preference.He knows the names and habits of those who visit is 'Diner'. He provides Bird house to met their specification. Every year my parents have mallard ducks stop along their southern route to take advantage of their Pool. They're like old friends. The only species around his home which can find themselves the target of his hunting expertise are Raccoons- get the garbage, climb down the chimney get in the house, rip up screens, or attack neighbor hood cats.
I learned more about wildlife and conservationism through him then I ever did from my own father who Never Hunted a day in his life!
So In Michigan "Hunters" like Palin, are not only considered Killers, they are considered Pussys!

Why are you even surprised. She's a fucking Alaskan for god's sake ! Animal cruelty isn't going to get through people's minds and convince them to vote Obama just like that. Now shut up and go back to concentrating on making Obama a populist so that he might be able to salvage what's left of his otherwise dying candidacy. Everyone is already aware of Palin's barbaric cruelty so stop this shit already !

As councilwoman Palin okayed shooting dogs

I work in a farm fresh market in Barre, VT and a regular customer (a guy who comes in with his wife and young son, buys local foods and lets their son play in our kids room) recently saw me reading an article about Palin. He said he lived 5 miles outside Wasilla when Palin was on the city council. One of the issues that came before the council was after someone had shot and killed his neighbors dogs because they were annoying him. There was a request to pass an ordinance to outlaw shooting dogs, and the council's response was to pass an ordinance ALLOWING residents to shoot dogs who were disturbing them. There was some discussion about 'those Californians who treat dogs like members of the family'. I wish someone would find the minutes of that meeting and post it... I will try to get the guy who told me this story to post it. He did give me permission to repeat it.

Over 200,000 porpoises are killed every year by fishermen seeking tuna in the Pacific. Sea turtles are similarly killed in Caribbean shrimp operations. Some animals are killed because they compete with humans for the right to kill other animals for food, including wild game and domesticated species raised by livestock ranchers. Alaskan hunters are eager to reduce the wolf population in their state because this animal is a predator of moose.

Cougars, coyotes and wolves are considered a menace to the cattle and sheep industries, and livestock ranchers have engaged in a large-scale campaign to exterminate them. Two species of wolves are now endangered, and very few wolves can be found in the United States except in Alaska and northeastern Minnesota. The relatively small number of eagles in the U.S. is largely due to the destruction of this species by livestock ranchers, particularly those in the sheep business.

Herbivorous animals that inhabit rangeland areas are killed by the livestock industry because they compete with cattle and sheep for food. Large numbers of kangaroos are exterminated in Australia, while in the U.S., livestock ranchers seek to destroy wild horses, wild burros, deer, elk, antelope and prairie dogs.

Kathleen Marquardt, founder of Putting People First (an anti-animal rights group) writes in her 1993 book, Animal Scam: the Beastly Abuse of Human Rights, that the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) "now encourages vegetarianism, the banning of fur, and the eventual end to all animal research, not just ‘cruel’ animal research." Marquardt writes that the Humane Society now supports vegetarianism.

Marquardt cites studies indicating that animal rights activists identify with liberal causes like feminism and environmentalism. "Every year," writes the Reverend Andrew Linzey, author of Christianity and the Rights of Animals, "I receive hundreds of anguished letters from Christians who are so distressed by the insensitivity to animals shown by mainstream churches that they have left them or are on the verge of doing so." It is not surprising, therefore, that Marquardt reports, "Most activists share a bias against Western civilization and its Judeo-Christian foundations."

According to Marquardt, the "political clout" of the animal rights movement "is surprisingly bipartisan. But most of the leading politicians working with the animal rights movement are liberal Democrats." Marquardt mentions Senator Barbara Boxer of California, Nevada Congressman Jim Bilbray, Charlie Rose of North Carolina, Tom Lantos and Gerry Studds.

Marquardt admits, however, "some Republicans are animal rightists, too. Senate Minority Leader Bob Dole of Kansas often supports animal rights causes—except, of course, those pertaining to cattle, a major business in Kansas. Senator Robert Smith of New Hampshire was a founder of the Congressional Friends of Animals. Bob Dornan of California, one of the most conservative House members, is an animal rights advocate—he cosponsored legislation banning the use of animals in testing cosmetics and received a PETA award. And Manhattan Congressman Bill Green promoted legislation that would have shut down over 90 million acres of federal land to hunting, fishing, and trapping."

Marquardt states further, "Although he’s not an elected official, a conservative political figure who, surprisingly, is on the other side is G. Gordon Liddy, author Will and a key figure in the 1972 Watergate uproar. When I went on Liddy’s radio show, he and PETA’s Ingrid Newkirk greeted each other with hugs and kisses and lots of warm words.

"With allies in both political parties and across the ideological spectrum," concludes Marquardt, "the animal rights movement has been able to score some great successes, regardless of which party controls the White House or Capitol Hill."

"As an Illinois State Senator and United States Senator, Obama has been a champion of animal-friendly legislation and policy. He has repeatedly voted to increase penalties for animal cruelty and violence, and to require psychological counseling for those who engage in this behavior. He has co-sponsored bills to ban the slaughter of horses and wild burros, increase penalties for animal fighting, prohibit dog fighting, and penalize spectators for engaging in dog fighting. He has supported additional funding for the Animal Care division within the Department of Agriculture, and sought funds to enforce the Animal Welfare Act, Humane Methods of Slaughter Act, and the federal animal fighting law. He has cosponsored legislation to promote the veterinary profession, including providing grants to encourage graduates to work in underserved rural and inner city areas or specialize in public health and biomedical research. And Obama voted to require the Food and Drug Administration to update labeling standards for pet food and create a national registry or early warning system for adulterated pet food.

"As president, Obama will continue to respect and support animals. He will make sure that we treat animal cruelty, exploitation, and neglect like the serious crime it is, and address its connection to broader patterns of violence. He will support the role pets play as companions by crafting policies that honor the bonds between family and pet. Obama will encourage and support the role animals play in assisting humans, from search and rescue to aiding persons with disabilities. This means we need to support their trainers and the people they assist, and, most importantly, make sure that animals employed by humans are well-treated."

McCain on his own is a very weak ticket. But swing voters like Palin. Attacking Palin only increases her status in the eyes of Middle America. This is a country that would never elect a Golda Meir, but might go ahead and elect Goldie Hawn. The smartest strategy is to ignore Palin, and run against McCain. As in football, attack the weak side.

I can't say anything about Safari Club International, but the NRA restricts itself to lobbying against gun-control laws. They've got nothing to do with hunting laws or steel leghold traps. The author damages his credibility by by lumping these two organizations together simply because Sarah Palin is a member. If Sarah Palin joins the Sierra Club, I guess that means it's a pro-hunter organization as well.

I'll say it, Sarah Palin IS a pig with lipstick, and my only apology or embarrasment is to the pigs themselves in that I demean them by comparing them to Palin. I would defend the wolves and bears from airborne cowards as I would defend my own children, my wife or anyone else. Back in the 1970's the big lumber companies in eastern Canada were spraying some toxic bug spray against the spruce bud worm and bunches of kids were permanently damaged. A band of Women Guerillas shot one of the planes out of the sky. The spraying stopped. Get the message ??

The way we treat animals is generally a pretty good index to our character; people who tease or abuse small (or large) animals, derive amusement from their pain and suffering and encourage others to treat animals as they do are seriously flawed human beings who have no business in positions of authority (though an awful lot of these power-loving bullies seem to find their way into such positions).

The Lakota were very close to the mark in their belief that "the wolf is our brother." In a nearly 1 million year history together, there is not one plausible recorded incident of a wolf ever killing or carrying off a human being, but you'd never know that when the anti-wolf lobby gears up. Killing these noble creatures in so vile and un-sporting a manner is nothing short of sacrilege--a crime against nature itself.

When the native Americans hunted for sustenance they would always offer thanks to the spirit of the animals they killed for its sacrifice in helping to sustain humankind. This act was a recognition and respecting of the cycle of life; a profound understanding of life itself.

Responsible hunting--not the kind Palin and Co. practice--ENCOURAGES CONSERVATION as without natural habitat, there's nothing left to hunt.
Responsible hunters have a deep respect for the animals they hunt (deer herds down where I live in very rural SE Iowa tend to get too numerous to support their numbers and must be responsibly harvested from time to time--sorry, that's just the way it is). Oftentimes the meat is donated to food pantries etc. (I do not hunt myself). Outdoor sportsmen and women should be very concerned about this evil woman and her attitude towards the natural world.

That she "hates" cats is a powerful psychological indicator. Most revealing. I can (in theory, anyway) perhaps understand being indifferent to cats, or not particularly liking them, but to "hate" them is to make it plan that she "hates" what cats represent: disobedience, independence, wildness, the mysterious anarchistic "id" that defies authority and walks alone.

In short, she hates that which cannot be controlled.

It's time for the media to start hunting Sarah Palin in earnest. Enough tiptoeing around very tangible issues simply because she's a woman. The world is becoming an increasingly dangerous place and, woman or not, she better get up to speed in one hell of a hurry.

NO ONE cares what you've got between your legs, they only care that you get shit done and in a forthright and honest manner. Somehow I don't think Putin, Jintao or even Merkel and Bachelet are going to cut her one damn bit of slack.

I would love to see Palin being hunted - literally hunted - so she can get a feel for what it is to be the beta animal. Like another poster stated, hunting within a certain framework and for food that cannot otherwise be attained due to financial hardship is acceptable to me, but hunting just so you can hang an animal's head on your wall or spread its pelt in front of the fireplace is SICKENING!

As a Coloraoan, my state is about to be inundated with these sick assholes on 4 wheelers who spotlight animals at night and get drunk and shoot one another during the day. I've seen things growing up on the Western slope of Colorado that you cannot begin to imagine. Palin is a fucking savage and this nation should want nothing to do with her. It amazes me that we still have not learned that all life is precious, not just human life.

Russell Weston Jr., tortured and killed 12 cats: burned and cut off their tails, paws, ears; poured toxic chemicals in their eyes to blind them; forced them to ingest poison, hung them from trees (the noose loose enough to create a slow and painful death.) Later killed 2 officers at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, DC.

Jeffery Dahmer staked cats to trees and decapitated dogs. Later he dissected boys, and kept their body parts in the refrigerator. Murdered 17 men.

Kip Kinkle shot 25 classmates and killed several in Springfield, Oregon. He killed his father and mother. Said he blew up a cow once. Set a live cat on fire and dragged the innocent creature through the main street of town. Classmates rated him as "Most Likely to Start WWIII.

As a boy, Albert De Salvo, the "Boston Strangler," placed a dog and cat in a crate with a partition between them. After starving the animals for days, he removed the partition to watch them kill each other. He raped and killed 13 women by strangulation. He often posed bodies in a shocking manner after their murders.

Richard Allen Davis set numerous cats on fire. He killed all of Polly Klaas' animals before abducting and murdering Polly Klaas, aged 12, from her bedroom.

11-year-old Andrew Golden and 13-year-old Mitchell Johnson tortured and killed dogs. On March 24, 1998, in Jonesboro, Arkansas, Golden and Johnson shot and killed 4 students and 1 teacher during a fire drill at their school.

After 16-year-old Luke Woodham mortally stabbed his mother, killed 2 classmates and shot 7 others, he confessed to bludgeoning his dog Sparkle with baseball bats and pouring liquid fuel down her throat and to set fire to her neck. "I made my first kill today," he wrote in his court-subpoenaed journal. "It was a loved one...I'll never forget the howl she made. It sounded almost human." In June 1998, Woodham was found guilty of 3 murders and 7 counts of aggravated assault. He was sentenced to 3 life sentences and an additional 20 years for each assault.

Theodore Robert Bundy, executed in 1989 for at least 50 murders, was forced to witness a grandfather who tortured animals. Bundy later heaped graves with animal bones.

At 4-years-old, Michael Cartier dislocated the legs of rabbits and hurled a kitten through a closed window. He later shot Kristin Lardner 3 times in the head, before shooting himself.

Henry Lee Lucas killed numerous animals and had sex with their corpses. He killed his mother, common law wife, and an unknown number of people.

Edward Kemperer cut up 2 cats. He later killed his grandparents, mother and 7 other women.

Richard Speck threw a bird into a ventilator fan. Killed 8 women.

Randy Roth taped a cat to a car's engine and used an industrial sander on a frog. Killed 2 of his wives and attempted to kill a third.

David Richard Davis shot and killed 2 healthy ponies, threw a wine bottle at a pair of kittens and hunted with illegal methods. Murdered his wife, Shannon Mohr Davis, for insurance money.

Peter Kurten, the Dusseldorf Monster, tortured dogs, and practiced bestiality while killing animals. Murdered or attempted to murder over 50 men, women and children.

Richard Trenton Chase, "The Vampire Killer of Sacramento," bit the heads off birds, drained animals for their blood, killed animals for their organs, and later killed 6 people in random attacks. One police officer present at the scene of the first murder, confessed to having nightmares about the crime for months afterwards.

"The Kobe Killer," an as yet unnamed 15-year-old boy in Japan, beheaded a cat and strangled several pigeons. Decapitated 11-year-old Jun Hase, and battered to death a 10-year-old girl with a hammer, and assaulted 3 other children in separate attacks.

Richard William Leonard's grandmother forced him to kill and mutilate cats and kittens when he was a child. He later killed Stephen Dempsey with a bow and arrow. He also killed Ezzedine Bahmad by slashing his throat.

Tom Dillion murdered people's pets. He shot and killed Jamie Paxton, aged 21; Claude Hawkins, aged 49; Donald Welling, aged 35; Kevin Loring, aged 30; and Gary Bradely, aged 44.

At 9-years-old, Eric Smith strangled a neighbor's cat. At 13, he bludgeoned 4-year-old Derrick Robie to death. Smith lured the little boy into the woods, choked him, sodomized him with a stick, then beat him to death with a rock.

David Berkowitz, "Son of Sam," poisoned his mother's parakeet out of jealousy. He later shot 13 young men and women. 6 people died and at least 2 suffered permanent disabilities.

Arthur Shawcross repeatedly threw a kitten into a lake until the kitten drowned from exhaustion. Killed a young girl. After serving 15-1/2 years in prison, he killed 11 more women.

Michael Perry decapitated a neighbor's dog. Later killed his parents, infant nephew and 2 neighbors.

Jason Massey's killing resume began with cats and dogs; at 20 he decapitated and disemboweled a 13-year-old girl and fatally shot a 14-year old boy. He claims to have killed 37 cats, 29 dogs and 6 cows.

Patrick Sherrill stole neighborhood pets, tethered them with baling wire and encouraged his dog to mutilate them. He killed 14 co-workers and himself in 1986.

Keith Hunter Jesperson, "Happy Face Killer," bashed gopher heads and beat, strangled and shot stray cats and dogs. He is known to have strangled 8 women.

He said:

"You're actually squeezing the life out of these animals...Choking a human being or a cat--it's the same feeling...I'm the very end result of what happens when somebody kills an animal at an early age."

Carroll Edward Cole, executed in 1985 for an alleged 35 murders and reputed to be one of the most prolific serial killers in U.S. history, confessed that his first act of violence was to strangle a puppy under the porch of his house.

Robert Alton Harris murdered two 16-year-old boys, doused a neighbor with lighter fluid and tossed matches at him. His initial run-in with police was for killing neighborhood cats.

Rachel Carson wrote:

"Until we have the courage to recognize cruelty for what it is whether its victim is human or animal we cannot expect things to be much better in this world. We cannot have peace among men whose hearts delight in killing any living creature. By every act that glorifies or even tolerates such moronic delight in killing we set back the progress of humanity."

In a 1990 letter to Eric Mills of Action For Animals in Oakland, CA, vegetarian labor leader Cesar Chavez similarly observed:

"Kindness and compassion towards all living things is a mark of a civilized society. Conversely, cruelty, whether it is directed against human beings or against animals, is not the exclusive province of any one culture or community of people. Racism, economic deprival, dog fighting and cockfighting, bullfighting and rodeos are cut from the same fabric: violence. Only when we have become nonviolent towards all life will we have learned to live well ourselves."

She is as heartless as they come! Not only towards innocent, defenseless animals, but against her own gender, actually making rape victims pay for their own rape kits in Alaska. Nice, huh? She doesn't even support equal pay for women! And she wants to undo the years of blood, sweat and tears the sisters before us had to endure to have control over their own body! What is wrong with this monster??

Very simply, this video needs to be aired in Ohio. Ohio is a battleground state, a critical state for Obama to win the election. It so happens there is also a very strong animal welfare - animal rights community in Ohio. They work on puppy mills, dog rescue and any number of other aspects of animal welfare. Many of the participants are even conservative. I know from being on list serves with them. This video aired in Ohio could make a difference. I have already made my financial contribution.

I urge all supporters of Sen Obama to mainly ignore Gov Palin, as talking about her is playing Karl Rove's Game: talking about Gov Palin is moving the discussion away from issues where Sen Obama can win - like health care, jobs and education - to trivia where, since Rove selected the game, Sen Obama is at a disadvantage.
The proper response of any supporter of Sen Obama when someone asks about Gov Palin is something along the lines of, well she seems like a typical member of the GOP, loving pork and decrying it at the same time, proving that women can be as bad as men. But enough about Gov Palin - lets talk about how Sen Barack Obama is going to bring good jobs to this country, how he is going to help you pay for your kids colleg, aobut how he is going to start to fix the health care system in this countyr. Those are important real issues, and Gov Obama is the best man for the job

I love my gun collection, but I also love all my animals. They are my friends and companions, and yes I also have a purebreed wolf, and she is the sweetest. Palin is a murderer and has no respect for life and in no way should she be allowed to rule this country. McCain is just a dying murderer at the end of his rope. jfb

So many hunters hunt with no respect, these are the ones who don't hunt for food or survival and kill something just so they can get a diluded feeling of dominance. I say put 'em in the wilderness without their gortex,treestands, guns and flasks and let the predators become the prey.

I believe that the issue of compassion towards nature and protection of the ecological systems that sustain life is in direct consonance with Christian beliefs. I am sure there are many conservative and religious citizens out there that view these ecological abuses and neglect as destructive of creation, or offensive to God.
They must be there, the principles are so clearly aligned.
I would like to see them raise their voice.
This election is not about conservatism vs. liberalism, but about rebuilding our country and strengthening our future.
The choice is clear.

I mistrust ANY article that immediately comes out with a blatant lie such as the NRA defends "despicable and unsporting practices such as captive trophy hunts, bear baiting, and steel-jawed legold [sic] traps -- practices that real hunters agree are inhumane and unacceptable."
I've been an ACTIVE member of the NRA for years, I do not hunt, I am not wealthy and the NRA has NEVER advocated any of those despicable acts. The only thing MORE despicable than those acts is erroneously reporting that someone is advocating them.
I am not a Republican nor a Democrat, but I DO believe in truth and non-partisanship. You, obviously, believe in neither.

This article makes the point that I've been making for a long time, i.e. that hunting from a plane is the same as hunting farm raised quail (you listening, cheney?). It is something no hunter would do, only some sort of sick pervert.

Forget about the business of "you don't understand the wildlife management in Alaska." Wildlife management runs by the same principles everywhere. And one of those principles is that if you eliminate the top predator, you are going to run into a hell of a lot of problems. The person who doesn't understand wildlife management in Alaska (among many, many other things) is Sarah Palin. A study in Canada about how wolves were affecting the caribou population showed that wolves weren't doing a blessed thing, it was the "brave hunters" in their airplanes that were decimating the caribou.

Aerial shoots are not hunts

Land and shoot hunting and trapping is illegal in Alaska. The predator control program that allows a small number of licenses for predator control purposes (aeriel) is allowed in less than 10% of the Alaskan land mass and is only put into effect when all other controls haven't proved effective. It is not a hunting program and is well regulated and highly controlled.

Biologists with the Alaska Department of Fish and Game determine the level of predator
removal needed to accomplish moose and caribou increase goals, and determine stable but decreased predator population objectives
for various areas and circumstances. We trust them to do their job in a responsible, ethical and scientific manner through a public process. We don't need or want outside interest groups trying to pass laws to manipulate the ADF&G's objectives. Objectives which are mandated to our state government by Alaska's constitution to manage our state's resources for the maximum benefit of it's people on a sustained yield principle.

Contrary to all the hyperbole, Sarah Palin isn't in a supercub at every opportunity randomly shooting wolves for sport nor is she encouraging any and everyone to do so.
As with most Alaskans, Sarah and her family hunt for food. Free range, local, organic meat for the freezer. The pelts you see behind her in picture and video are from animals that were shot for their meat, not for trophy. Yes, Alaskans eat all of those animals plus seal and whale which native Alaskans consume.

Alaskans love our wildlife and most behave in humane and responsible manners when encountering them in the wild and when hunting for subsistance. Predator control programs which first and foremost include sterilization, relocation and diversionary feeding, are in place to ensure there is a healthy moose and caribou population while ensuring ALL wildlife is sustained indefinately.

Most on this post will still disagree and resort to the ugly name calling and nasty suggestions of "hunting" Sarah Palin. I don't expect to change anyone's worldview and certainly respect alternate views than the one the majority of Alaskans hold. I do, however, urge people to learn about issues prior to being so mean and nasty. Information can be found at http://www.wildlife.alaska.gov

PETA! I haven't heard anything from them. It seems like they have been uncharecteristicly quiet on this horrific case of animal cruelty. They appear to be very selective on who they chose to go after and make an example of.

Why would anyone be surprised that this "pit bull with lipstick" supports animal cruelty? After all she is the one who is responsible for making sure that HUMAN rape victims pay for their own rape kits.

We live in a culture that breeds ignorance and insensitivity to life.

We do not know what life is but we feel free to destroy it for pleasure, exploit other creatures unconsciously with no thought or appreciation to the sacrifice of another life for our sustenance. To hunt to eat as a necessity done with respect is one thing, to do so for the thrill of the kill is cowardly and immoral.

And, of course, it's the same callous insensitivity that allows us to sacrifice human life so mindlessly for our economic and political ambitions. Damn the innocent that get in the way, "collateral" is our weak attempt to describe the inexcusable wasting of what we pretend to value above all else.

Sarah Palin is simply incapable of valuing something that she doesn't understand. It doesn't make her or anyone like her a leader, quite contrarily, she's ignorant of even the native Inuit Alaskan value of and spiritual regard for their needed prey as well as their competitive predators.

Sarah Palin is a perfectly common example of the vacuous nature of a spiritually dead culture.

My Step-Father at 76 still goes out before hunting season starts to set up his tree stand. Then when the season begins he gets up before dawn, donns all his attire & gear and drives an Hour to his hunting spot. THEN HE SITS- often freezing his ass off, but he WAITS. After several Hours he returns home- usually empty handed- BUT HAPPY!
He went on a antelope hunt outwest and nearly got killed by a Moose Cow protecting her calf, it's one of his favorite stories to tell- of the many he has accumulated over nearly 3/4 of a century of hunting.
When he does get Deer He field dresses it and butchers it himself ( sometimes I'm around to help).Then he DISPENSES the Venison throughout the family. If it has a good rack he gets it mounted and gives that to someone in the family.
Until several years ago he was an avid Rifle hunter, But After a shoulder injury he was granted a Crossbow license. Now he preferrs this over rifle- a bigger challenge, requiring far more accuracy.
I have always been an animal advocate- never really a fan of hunting.But the more I have read about these psuedo Hunter the more I admire and understand the Workings of a REAL HUNTER- It is NOT the Kill, It is the Hunt!
My Step father is also has about 10 bird feeders - of various mixes Out in his backyard- a feeder for each kind of birds preference.He knows the names and habits of those who visit is 'Diner'. He provides Bird house to met their specification. Every year my parents have mallard ducks stop along their southern route to take advantage of their Pool. They're like old friends. The only species around his home which can find themselves the target of his hunting expertise are Raccoons- get the garbage, climb down the chimney get in the house, rip up screens, or attack neighbor hood cats.
I learned more about wildlife and conservationism through him then I ever did from my own father who Never Hunted a day in his life!
So In Michigan "Hunters" like Palin, are not only considered Killers, they are considered Pussys!

Now shut up and go back to concentrating on making Obama a populist so that he might be able to salvage what's left of his otherwise dying candidacy. I work in a farm fresh market in Barre, VT and a regular customer (a guy who comes in with his wife and young son, buys local foods and lets their son play in our kids room) recently saw me reading an article about Palin. He said he lived 5 miles outside Wasilla when Palin was on the city council. One of the issues that came before the council was after someone had shot and killed his neighbors dogs because they were annoying him. There was a request to pass an ordinance to outlaw shooting dogs, and the council's response was to pass an ordinance ALLOWING residents to shoot dogs who were disturbing them. There was some discussion about 'those Californians who treat dogs like members of the family'. I wish someone would find the minutes of that meeting and post it... I will try to get the guy who told me this story to post it. He did give me permission to repeat it.

Over 200,000 porpoises are killed every year by fishermen seeking tuna in the Pacific. Sea turtles are similarly killed in Caribbean shrimp operations. Some animals are killed because they compete with humans for the right to kill other animals for food, including wild game and domesticated species raised by livestock ranchers. Alaskan hunters are eager to reduce the wolf population in their state because this animal is a predator of moose.

Cougars, coyotes and wolves are considered a menace to the cattle and sheep industries, and livestock ranchers have engaged in a large-scale campaign to exterminate them. Two species of wolves are now endangered, and very few wolves can be found in the United States except in Alaska and northeastern Minnesota. The relatively small number of eagles in the U.S. is largely due to the destruction of this species by livestock ranchers, particularly those in the sheep business.

Herbivorous animals that inhabit rangeland areas are killed by the livestock industry because they compete with cattle and sheep for food. Large numbers of kangaroos are exterminated in Australia, while in the U.S., livestock ranchers seek to destroy wild horses, wild burros, deer, elk, antelope and prairie dogs.

Kathleen Marquardt, founder of Putting People First (an anti-animal rights group) writes in her 1993 book, Animal Scam: the Beastly Abuse of Human Rights, that the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) "now encourages vegetarianism, the banning of fur, and the eventual end to all animal research, not just ‘cruel’ animal research." Marquardt writes that the Humane Society now supports vegetarianism.

Marquardt cites studies indicating that animal rights activists identify with liberal causes like feminism and environmentalism. "Every year," writes the Reverend Andrew Linzey, author of Christianity and the Rights of Animals, "I receive hundreds of anguished letters from Christians who are so distressed by the insensitivity to animals shown by mainstream churches that they have left them or are on the verge of doing so." It is not surprising, therefore, that Marquardt reports, "Most activists share a bias against Western civilization and its Judeo-Christian foundations."

According to Marquardt, the "political clout" of the animal rights movement "is surprisingly bipartisan. But most of the leading politicians working with the animal rights movement are liberal Democrats." Marquardt mentions Senator Barbara Boxer of California, Nevada Congressman Jim Bilbray, Charlie Rose of North Carolina, Tom Lantos and Gerry Studds.

Marquardt admits, however, "some Republicans are animal rightists, too. Senate Minority Leader Bob Dole of Kansas often supports animal rights causes—except, of course, those pertaining to cattle, a major business in Kansas. Senator Robert Smith of New Hampshire was a founder of the Congressional Friends of Animals. Bob Dornan of California, one of the most conservative House members, is an animal rights advocate—he cosponsored legislation banning the use of animals in testing cosmetics and received a PETA award. And Manhattan Congressman Bill Green promoted legislation that would have shut down over 90 million acres of federal land to hunting, fishing, and trapping."

Marquardt states further, "Although he’s not an elected official, a conservative political figure who, surprisingly, is on the other side is G. Gordon Liddy, author Will and a key figure in the 1972 Watergate uproar. When I went on Liddy’s radio show, he and PETA’s Ingrid Newkirk greeted each other with hugs and kisses and lots of warm words.

"With allies in both political parties and across the ideological spectrum," concludes Marquardt, "the animal rights movement has been able to score some great successes, regardless of which party controls the White House or Capitol Hill."

And Obama voted to require the Food and Drug Administration to update labeling standards for pet food and create a national registry or early warning system for adulterated pet food.

"As president, Obama will continue to respect and support animals. He will make sure that we treat animal cruelty, exploitation, and neglect like the serious crime it is, and address its connection to broader patterns of violence. He will support the role pets play as companions by crafting policies that honor the bonds between family and pet. Obama will encourage and support the role animals play in assisting humans, from search and rescue to aiding persons with disabilities. This means we need to support their trainers and the people they assist, and, most importantly, make sure that animals employed by humans are well-treated."

McCain on his own is a very weak ticket. But swing voters like Palin. Attacking Palin only increases her status in the eyes of Middle America. This is a country that would never elect a Golda Meir, but might go ahead and elect Goldie Hawn. The smartest strategy is to ignore Palin, and run against McCain. As in football, attack the weak side.

Palin is not only a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association, but is also a close ally of Safari Club International. These radical groups don't represent rank-and-file hunters, but instead lobby on behalf of their elitist, wealthy members to defend despicable and unsporting practices such as captive trophy hunts, bear baiting, and steel-jawed legold traps -- practices that real hunters agree are inhumane and unacceptable.

I can't say anything about Safari Club International, but the NRA restricts itself to lobbying against gun-control laws. They've got nothing to do with hunting laws or steel leghold traps. The author damages his credibility by by lumping these two organizations together simply because Sarah Palin is a member. If Sarah Palin joins the Sierra Club, I guess that means it's a pro-hunter organization as well.

I would defend the wolves and bears from airborne cowards as I would defend my own children, my wife or anyone else. Back in the 1970's the big lumber companies in eastern Canada were spraying some toxic bug spray against the spruce bud worm and bunches of kids were permanently damaged. A band of Women Guerillas shot one of the planes out of the sky. The spraying stopped. Get the message ??

The way we treat animals is generally a pretty good index to our character; people who tease or abuse small (or large) animals, derive amusement from their pain and suffering and encourage others to treat animals as they do are seriously flawed human beings who have no business in positions of authority (though an awful lot of these power-loving bullies seem to find their way into such positions).

The Lakota were very close to the mark in their belief that "the wolf is our brother." In a nearly 1 million year history together, there is not one plausible recorded incident of a wolf ever killing or carrying off a human being, but you'd never know that when the anti-wolf lobby gears up. Killing these noble creatures in so vile and un-sporting a manner is nothing short of sacrilege--a crime against nature itself.

When the native Americans hunted for sustenance they would always offer thanks to the spirit of the animals they killed for its sacrifice in helping to sustain humankind. This act was a recognition and respecting of the cycle of life; a profound understanding of life itself.

Responsible hunting--not the kind Palin and Co. practice--ENCOURAGES CONSERVATION as without natural habitat, there's nothing left to hunt.
Responsible hunters have a deep respect for the animals they hunt (deer herds down where I live in very rural SE Iowa tend to get too numerous to support their numbers and must be responsibly harvested from time to time--sorry, that's just the way it is). Oftentimes the meat is donated to food pantries etc. (I do not hunt myself). Outdoor sportsmen and women should be very concerned about this evil woman and her attitude towards the natural world.

That she "hates" cats is a powerful psychological indicator. Most revealing. I can (in theory, anyway) perhaps understand being indifferent to cats, or not particularly liking them, but to "hate" them is to make it plan that she "hates" what cats represent: disobedience, independence, wildness, the mysterious anarchistic "id" that defies authority and walks alone.

In short, she hates that which cannot be controlled.

It's time for the media to start hunting Sarah Palin in earnest. Enough tiptoeing around very tangible issues simply because she's a woman. The world is becoming an increasingly dangerous place and, woman or not, she better get up to speed in one hell of a hurry.

NO ONE cares what you've got between your legs, they only care that you get shit done and in a forthright and honest manner. Somehow I don't think Putin, Jintao or even Merkel and Bachelet are going to cut her one damn bit of slack.

I would love to see Palin being hunted - literally hunted - so she can get a feel for what it is to be the beta animal. Like another poster stated, hunting within a certain framework and for food that cannot otherwise be attained due to financial hardship is acceptable to me, but hunting just so you can hang an animal's head on your wall or spread its pelt in front of the fireplace is SICKENING!

As a Coloraoan, my state is about to be inundated with these sick assholes on 4 wheelers who spotlight animals at night and get drunk and shoot one another during the day. I've seen things growing up on the Western slope of Colorado that you cannot begin to imagine. Palin is a fucking savage and this nation should want nothing to do with her. It amazes me that we still have not learned that all life is precious, not just human life.

Russell Weston Jr., tortured and killed 12 cats: burned and cut off their tails, paws, ears; poured toxic chemicals in their eyes to blind them; forced them to ingest poison, hung them from trees (the noose loose enough to create a slow and painful death.) Later killed 2 officers at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, DC.

Jeffery Dahmer staked cats to trees and decapitated dogs. Later he dissected boys, and kept their body parts in the refrigerator. Murdered 17 men.

Kip Kinkle shot 25 classmates and killed several in Springfield, Oregon. He killed his father and mother. Said he blew up a cow once. Set a live cat on fire and dragged the innocent creature through the main street of town. Classmates rated him as "Most Likely to Start WWIII.

As a boy, Albert De Salvo, the "Boston Strangler," placed a dog and cat in a crate with a partition between them. After starving the animals for days, he removed the partition to watch them kill each other. He raped and killed 13 women by strangulation. He often posed bodies in a shocking manner after their murders.

Richard Allen Davis set numerous cats on fire. He killed all of Polly Klaas' animals before abducting and murdering Polly Klaas, aged 12, from her bedroom.

11-year-old Andrew Golden and 13-year-old Mitchell Johnson tortured and killed dogs. On March 24, 1998, in Jonesboro, Arkansas, Golden and Johnson shot and killed 4 students and 1 teacher during a fire drill at their school.

After 16-year-old Luke Woodham mortally stabbed his mother, killed 2 classmates and shot 7 others, he confessed to bludgeoning his dog Sparkle with baseball bats and pouring liquid fuel down her throat and to set fire to her neck. "I made my first kill today," he wrote in his court-subpoenaed journal. "It was a loved one...I'll never forget the howl she made. It sounded almost human." In June 1998, Woodham was found guilty of 3 murders and 7 counts of aggravated assault. He was sentenced to 3 life sentences and an additional 20 years for each assault.

Theodore Robert Bundy, executed in 1989 for at least 50 murders, was forced to witness a grandfather who tortured animals. Bundy later heaped graves with animal bones.

At 4-years-old, Michael Cartier dislocated the legs of rabbits and hurled a kitten through a closed window. He later shot Kristin Lardner 3 times in the head, before shooting himself.

Henry Lee Lucas killed numerous animals and had sex with their corpses. He killed his mother, common law wife, and an unknown number of people.

Edward Kemperer cut up 2 cats. He later killed his grandparents, mother and 7 other women.

Richard Speck threw a bird into a ventilator fan. Killed 8 women.

Randy Roth taped a cat to a car's engine and used an industrial sander on a frog. Killed 2 of his wives and attempted to kill a third.

David Richard Davis shot and killed 2 healthy ponies, threw a wine bottle at a pair of kittens and hunted with illegal methods. Murdered his wife, Shannon Mohr Davis, for insurance money.

Peter Kurten, the Dusseldorf Monster, tortured dogs, and practiced bestiality while killing animals. Murdered or attempted to murder over 50 men, women and children.

Richard Trenton Chase, "The Vampire Killer of Sacramento," bit the heads off birds, drained animals for their blood, killed animals for their organs, and later killed 6 people in random attacks. One police officer present at the scene of the first murder, confessed to having nightmares about the crime for months afterwards.

"The Kobe Killer," an as yet unnamed 15-year-old boy in Japan, beheaded a cat and strangled several pigeons. Decapitated 11-year-old Jun Hase, and battered to death a 10-year-old girl with a hammer, and assaulted 3 other children in separate attacks.

Richard William Leonard's grandmother forced him to kill and mutilate cats and kittens when he was a child. He later killed Stephen Dempsey with a bow and arrow. He also killed Ezzedine Bahmad by slashing his throat.

Tom Dillion murdered people's pets. He shot and killed Jamie Paxton, aged 21; Claude Hawkins, aged 49; Donald Welling, aged 35; Kevin Loring, aged 30; and Gary Bradely, aged 44.

At 9-years-old, Eric Smith strangled a neighbor's cat. At 13, he bludgeoned 4-year-old Derrick Robie to death. Smith lured the little boy into the woods, choked him, sodomized him with a stick, then beat him to death with a rock.

David Berkowitz, "Son of Sam," poisoned his mother's parakeet out of jealousy. He later shot 13 young men and women. 6 people died and at least 2 suffered permanent disabilities.

Arthur Shawcross repeatedly threw a kitten into a lake until the kitten drowned from exhaustion. Killed a young girl. After serving 15-1/2 years in prison, he killed 11 more women.

Michael Perry decapitated a neighbor's dog. Later killed his parents, infant nephew and 2 neighbors.

Jason Massey's killing resume began with cats and dogs; at 20 he decapitated and disemboweled a 13-year-old girl and fatally shot a 14-year old boy. He claims to have killed 37 cats, 29 dogs and 6 cows.

Patrick Sherrill stole neighborhood pets, tethered them with baling wire and encouraged his dog to mutilate them. He killed 14 co-workers and himself in 1986.

Keith Hunter Jesperson, "Happy Face Killer," bashed gopher heads and beat, strangled and shot stray cats and dogs. He is known to have strangled 8 women.

He said:

"You're actually squeezing the life out of these animals...Choking a human being or a cat--it's the same feeling...I'm the very end result of what happens when somebody kills an animal at an early age."

Carroll Edward Cole, executed in 1985 for an alleged 35 murders and reputed to be one of the most prolific serial killers in U.S. history, confessed that his first act of violence was to strangle a puppy under the porch of his house.

Robert Alton Harris murdered two 16-year-old boys, doused a neighbor with lighter fluid and tossed matches at him. His initial run-in with police was for killing neighborhood cats.

Rachel Carson wrote:

"Until we have the courage to recognize cruelty for what it is whether its victim is human or animal we cannot expect things to be much better in this world. We cannot have peace among men whose hearts delight in killing any living creature. By every act that glorifies or even tolerates such moronic delight in killing we set back the progress of humanity."

In a 1990 letter to Eric Mills of Action For Animals in Oakland, CA, vegetarian labor leader Cesar Chavez similarly observed:

"Kindness and compassion towards all living things is a mark of a civilized society. Conversely, cruelty, whether it is directed against human beings or against animals, is not the exclusive province of any one culture or community of people. Racism, economic deprival, dog fighting and cockfighting, bullfighting and rodeos are cut from the same fabric: violence. Only when we have become nonviolent towards all life will we have learned to live well ourselves."

She is as heartless as they come! Not only towards innocent, defenseless animals, but against her own gender, actually making rape victims pay for their own rape kits in Alaska. Nice, huh? She doesn't even support equal pay for women! And she wants to undo the years of blood, sweat and tears the sisters before us had to endure to have control over their own body! What is wrong with this monster??

Very simply, this video needs to be aired in Ohio. Ohio is a battleground state, a critical state for Obama to win the election. It so happens there is also a very strong animal welfare - animal rights community in Ohio. They work on puppy mills, dog rescue and any number of other aspects of animal welfare. Many of the participants are even conservative. I know from being on list serves with them. This video aired in Ohio could make a difference. I have already made my financial contribution.

I urge all supporters of Sen Obama to mainly ignore Gov Palin, as talking about her is playing Karl Rove's Game: talking about Gov Palin is moving the discussion away from issues where Sen Obama can win - like health care, jobs and education - to trivia where, since Rove selected the game, Sen Obama is at a disadvantage.
The proper response of any supporter of Sen Obama when someone asks about Gov Palin is something along the lines of, well she seems like a typical member of the GOP, loving pork and decrying it at the same time, proving that women can be as bad as men. But enough about Gov Palin - lets talk about how Sen Barack Obama is going to bring good jobs to this country, how he is going to help you pay for your kids colleg, aobut how he is going to start to fix the health care system in this countyr. Those are important real issues, and Gov Obama is the best man for the job

I love my gun collection, but I also love all my animals. They are my friends and companions, and yes I also have a purebreed wolf, and she is the sweetest. Palin is a murderer and has no respect for life and in no way should she be allowed to rule this country. McCain is just a dying murderer at the end of his rope. jfb

So many hunters hunt with no respect, these are the ones who don't hunt for food or survival and kill something just so they can get a diluded feeling of dominance. I say put 'em in the wilderness without their gortex,treestands, guns and flasks and let the predators become the prey.

I believe that the issue of compassion towards nature and protection of the ecological systems that sustain life is in direct consonance with Christian beliefs. I am sure there are many conservative and religious citizens out there that view these ecological abuses and neglect as destructive of creation, or offensive to God.
They must be there, the principles are so clearly aligned.
I would like to see them raise their voice.
This election is not about conservatism vs. liberalism, but about rebuilding our country and strengthening our future.
The choice is clear.

I can't even stand to look at her anymore after researching her record. It makes me want to vomit that any American would even consider voting for someone like her. What a nightmare.

I mistrust ANY article that immediately comes out with a blatant lie such as the NRA defends "despicable and unsporting practices such as captive trophy hunts, bear baiting, and steel-jawed legold [sic] traps -- practices that real hunters agree are inhumane and unacceptable."
I've been an ACTIVE member of the NRA for years, I do not hunt, I am not wealthy and the NRA has NEVER advocated any of those despicable acts. The only thing MORE despicable than those acts is erroneously reporting that someone is advocating them.
I am not a Republican nor a Democrat, but I DO believe in truth and non-partisanship. You, obviously, believe in neither.

This article makes the point that I've been making for a long time, i.e. that hunting from a plane is the same as hunting farm raised quail (you listening, cheney?). It is something no hunter would do, only some sort of sick pervert.

Forget about the business of "you don't understand the wildlife management in Alaska." Wildlife management runs by the same principles everywhere. And one of those principles is that if you eliminate the top predator, you are going to run into a hell of a lot of problems. The person who doesn't understand wildlife management in Alaska (among many, many other things) is Sarah Palin. A study in Canada about how wolves were affecting the caribou population showed that wolves weren't doing a blessed thing, it was the "brave hunters" in their airplanes that were decimating the caribou.

Aerial shoots are not hunts

Land and shoot hunting and trapping is illegal in Alaska. The predator control program that allows a small number of licenses for predator control purposes (aeriel) is allowed in less than 10% of the Alaskan land mass and is only put into effect when all other controls haven't proved effective. It is not a hunting program and is well regulated and highly controlled.

Biologists with the Alaska Department of Fish and Game determine the level of predator
removal needed to accomplish moose and caribou increase goals, and determine stable but decreased predator population objectives
for various areas and circumstances. We trust them to do their job in a responsible, ethical and scientific manner through a public process. We don't need or want outside interest groups trying to pass laws to manipulate the ADF&G's objectives. Objectives which are mandated to our state government by Alaska's constitution to manage our state's resources for the maximum benefit of it's people on a sustained yield principle.

Contrary to all the hyperbole, Sarah Palin isn't in a supercub at every opportunity randomly shooting wolves for sport nor is she encouraging any and everyone to do so.
As with most Alaskans, Sarah and her family hunt for food. Free range, local, organic meat for the freezer. The pelts you see behind her in picture and video are from animals that were shot for their meat, not for trophy. Yes, Alaskans eat all of those animals plus seal and whale which native Alaskans consume.

Alaskans love our wildlife and most behave in humane and responsible manners when encountering them in the wild and when hunting for subsistance. Predator control programs which first and foremost include sterilization, relocation and diversionary feeding, are in place to ensure there is a healthy moose and caribou population while ensuring ALL wildlife is sustained indefinately.

Most on this post will still disagree and resort to the ugly name calling and nasty suggestions of "hunting" Sarah Palin. I don't expect to change anyone's worldview and certainly respect alternate views than the one the majority of Alaskans hold. I do, however, urge people to learn about issues prior to being so mean and nasty. Information can be found at http://www.wildlife.alaska.gov

PETA! I haven't heard anything from them. It seems like they have been uncharecteristicly quiet on this horrific case of animal cruelty. They appear to be very selective on who they chose to go after and make an example of.

Why would anyone be surprised that this "pit bull with lipstick" supports animal cruelty? After all she is the one who is responsible for making sure that HUMAN rape victims pay for their own rape kits.

Hmmm....yeah, I think animals are probably down the list a bit.
