This 'case is definitely about the first amendment,' says Harper's journalist

The abrupt dismissal of a veteran University of Alabama employee who blogged about the firing of seven US Attorneys has added a bizarre new twist to allegations that the state's US Attorneys targeted political opponents for prosecution.

Roger Shuler -- a high-profile blogger and leading critic of Alabama's judicial system -- has written extensively about alleged corruption among U.S. Attorneys for over a year. In particular, Shuler focused on two US Attorneys from his home state: Alice H. Martin of the Northern District and Leura G. Canary of the Middle District.

An editor in the University of Alabama Birmingham publications office for the last 12 years and a university employee for 19, Shuler was placed on administrative leave May 7 and formally fired May 19.

Do we even have Free Speech anymore?

This is all about the First Amendment. Let's not follow the gov't down the path of censorship. After all, censorship is becoming America's favorite past-time. The US gov't (and their corporate friends), already detain protesters, ban books like America Deceived (book) from Amazon and shut down Ron Paul. Free Speech forever.

The terrorists have no freedoms to hate now?

I really hate to say this but with the new lack of all these freedoms it looks like the terrorists have won by forcing you to rescind those freedoms to fight them.

On a more positive note. If the terrorists are attacking because they actually hate your freedoms they will no longer want to attack America because there is no freedom left.

To GWB and DC. You win, I guess! But, does turning your nation into what the terrorist wanted in the first place, qualify as a win or just Appeasment? Just curious.

"Higher" Education

Students: You are not here to develop and organize and discipline all those mental processes and your particular talents and skills to the purpose of thinking or in pursuit of knowledge or truth. That is not why you're here. You are here for one reason and one reason only: to meet Standards. We already have the knowledge and we already have the truth and we already set these standards. Your work is to meet or exceed these as GIVEN.

Do not ask questions which deviate or are outside this goal; else you will FAIL, you will LOSE, and we reserve the right to exclude, shun, expel or otherwise neutralize you and you will not receive the Higher Learning which you as our Clients and Consumers have purchased. This is OUR Product and we have Property Rights over all of its uses.

If any personal opinions or judgments you make for yourself regarding any aspect of this product and the Goals which it has set forth are not of the kind which would justify, defend, apologize for, apostolize for, or otherwise support or sustain this Program, its Standards and its Goals, please refrain from expressing them. The Code of Conduct prohibits such expressions and opinions up to and including Dismissal. Your Degree and Certification as Acceptable and Adequate for the Status-Track you purchased will be denied; no refunds. Above all remember: don't think; obey and meet. You are not meant to, nor should you try to think for yourself; that is NOT why you are here; you are here to think for others in accordance with the High Standards which WE have set for you. We already have the Knowledge; we already have the Truth; we already have the Understanding. We already have the Goal; it is the Product you have purchased by coming here. We, your Stewards; your job is to add Value, Expand Usage, increase Sales and Revenue. All you need to do is Follow the Rules, Obey, Meet the Standards and Defend and Justify the Knowledge, the Truth, the Understanding and the Goals which we have provided to you. Serve the Congregation.

The NEW University. FIT the Student into his or her place in the Kingdom of Christ, the New Canaan, the Promised Land. As envisioned, imagined, constructed and in all ways expected by THEM, the Creators of the Product. Biblical Knowledge, Biblical Truth, Biblical Understanding of a particular kind. Dogma.

That blogger Sinned! He ventured outside of his assigned Standards, Goals and Functions and expressed thoughts which did not meet the Standards of that INSTITUTION of Higher Learning. The Code of Business Conduct is clear: Exile. Ah! But if he is Meek, Guilty and Remorseful and presents an Apology in accordance with the High Standards of the Board, he may be forgiven his Sin and re-admitted into the obedient flock.

The University has returned to its Roots, the Monastic Cells and the Orders of Righteousness. Scholastic Exegesis and Hermeneutics of the Biblical Word. Unquestionable. Dogmatic. Hierarchy and assigned Roles as to who works where and why and who shall rise into the Guardianship of the Word. All knowledge, truth and understanding already prescribed. Dogma. Only Heretics and Skeptics and Unbelievers question Dogma. For them, an Inquisition, a Deliberation, a Judgment, and if need be, Permanent Expulsion from the Institution.

I have a Degree! I am Certified! I Fit! I have my Place! I have my Status!. I Met the Standards! I am Sheep, hear me Roar! Behold my Sheepskin!

The New University. Dogma.

These kinds of things are happening all over the U.S., here is one example.

It's still the same old police state. If your blogging like this guy was, you'd be wise to keep a little anonymity about you.

One judge says the defendant broke every rule in the book, the next judge says they did nothing wrong.

Welcome to America.
