Earlier this year I began taking my video camera out to the Castro, San Francisco's gay neighborhood, to talk to people about social change. I wanted to explore how we LGBT folk see ourselves in relation to a broader movement for social, racial, and economic justice. The project has evolved into a video blog called Castro in the Streets.

In March, Director Gus Van Sant put out an open call for extras to recreate Gay Freedom Day from June of 1978 for his upcoming film about Harvey Milk. I went to talk to people about what Harvey Milk represents to our community, and how the Castro has changed since the 70s.

Kip Williams is the creator of a series of short films focusing on San Francisco's Castro district, called "Castro in the Streets". You can check out more of his work on Youtube right here.
